a nice parallel i like between Japanese and English is that in both languages, there are the old native words that are usually simple every day ones, and then there are the complicated words used to express abstract concepts borrowed from a foreign language

@FarfaYGO Barfa, please do not let this decision ruin your experience. Sorcery battle has so many good VA's, even the side characters are solid. I admit there are some good dubs out there, but in this case, it's not even a contender. There's just no way you watch dub over the sub here

@FarfaYGO might be biased because i study and live in japan but sub is just objectively better option here. There're just so many nuances and intricacies that the dub just cannot express.

One of the most difficult things for anglophones to understand about learning Japanese is the relative CHASM between speaking/ listening skills and reading/ writing skills. It is entirely possible to be great at one and awful at the other to an absurd degree.

@AndyKavna I’m doing my best to improve my reading/writing skills now for the JLPT N1 exam. There’s so much idiotic toxicity and competitiveness among the online Japanese language learning community though that I don’t post about it anymore. They make it their entire personality.
