Wrote about one of my favourite novelists @AmitChaudhuri — a true champion of the infra-ordinary, of the fragment, of life's minor characters — & how he escapes/resists the strictures of narrative and history. Thanks to @nyrbclassics and @thebafflermag for publishing 😊
The Baffler@thebafflermag

In a linear narrative made up of logical, relevant coordinates, every detail services the larger story. But as @storyshaped explains, Amit Chaudhuri reverses this dynamic: a plot must arrange itself around the fragmentary details of life. thebaffler.com/latest/everyth…

I'm heartbroken by the Post's decision to eliminate its books coverage. The actual fact of my job aside, the existence of a standalone books section felt like a real celebration of a culture of literacy, dialogue, and even debate. It was a place to discover and celebrate.

My new novel, “My Lover, the Rabbi,” will be published by FSG in 2026. (I’m signed up there for a new book of essays, too.) Thanks to editor Jackson Howard and agent PJ Mark. @fsgbooks @FSGOriginals @JanklowNesbit

agonizing to write about a book that comes with an amazing introduction by @ddillingworth — hard to find things to say he hasn't already put better!
