@karonmoser @dekkar44 Without trying what? Where is this money coming from?
You keep saying they need to try “things” but you also don’t have the answers and are sitting here defending the fact that right now viewers give up NOTHING. They pay nothing, they buy no mercy, they don’t watch ads.
English

@bala_kaye @dekkar44 Nah but like you're legit regurgitating shit devs had said for years without trying it because they don't want to lose power/ think they'll launch their own streaming app
English

could be wrong but i dont see a future where esports viewers are significantly monetizable beyond in-game purchases + gambling
cant paywall broadcast because maybe i'd rather go do something else like play the game or watch a streamer
genuinely curious what options are there?
Kelsey Moser (莫凯西)@karonmoser
We can blame a million things for the esports bubble, but pro teams used vc money to pay for salaries instead of trying to figure out how to monetize Do I think costreaming hurt investment in base product? Sure, but it's 2026, and we still don't know how to get money from fans
English

@karonmoser @dekkar44 And also i might point out, im of the opinion that esports is doomed unless these core issues are fixed. Owning an org will eventually just be reduced to owning a hobby. Not an actual business. Maybe we deserve to die in a fire.
English

@bala_kaye @dekkar44 I think that broadcast deals have consistently failed for esports, so either change something to fit sports mold or realize the jocks you craved approval from in HS will watch football until they die and not care about you, then diversify
Up to you
English

@karonmoser @dekkar44 Another way to look at it is to look at the numbers for say, an apparel brand.
How many units of clothes do you think it would take to generate 5-10 million in SALES.
Now add in all your underlying costs for your esports org. Do you think you have a profitable business?
English

@bala_kaye @dekkar44 This has been the narrative, sure, but little actual investigation has been done to prove it true or false
English

@karonmoser @dekkar44 Would they be as big as they are if they had the same problem as esports, but had their current merch revenue*
English

@karonmoser @dekkar44 Sports entertainment companies have historically made most of their money off of two categories
Broadcast deals
Ticketing/concessions
esports has neither of those. Do you think nfl nba mlb would as big as they are if they faced the same problem with their merch sales?
English

@karonmoser @dekkar44 Merch can be bigger sure, but fundamentally the issues lie with the devs, AND the viewers.
Devs don’t want to paywall their games, give up their revenue secrets for micro transactions, or introduce more “adult” sponsors.
Viewers don’t want to pay a dime to support their teams.
English

@dekkar44 Most people just think merch is dead end when the biggest merch buyers, statistically, are women, and they don't bother to address that demo
There's a lot of unexplored monetization opportunities in esports that orgs decided are bad because their partnerships managers 1/2

@HommyAG I think Naut with the ability to split map the jungle is fine cause you have to pressure early with sums (G2 vs. GEN G1 is the roadmap).
I get the Mel, too aggressive of an overall timer for me haven’t seen it be as successful in comp as in solo queue.

@forestwithout Being a little bit disingenuous when one is playing in NA and one is playing with Caps

@JamadaLoL The biggest and only loss you can put on Knight was the 2024 MSI series where Chovy absolutely blasted him the entire series.
English

Rage bait used to be believable.
- 2023 Worlds. Crash out to T1 in Semis when they were the best team in the World all year.
- 2024 MSI and Worlds. No titles. 2nd Place andy.
- 2025 MSI and Worlds No titles and didn't make top 8 Worlds.

A few years ago Knight was known as an international choker, but I haven’t heard people say that in a long time now. It’s a blessing to be able to see him style on people internationally, he’s one of the best to ever do it.

@GeorgeH72711709 @adamkhootrader bitcoin isn’t backed by the largest economy and military in the world, like the dollar is….
English

That’s like saying the US dollar would be worthless if you owned every one.
Bitcoin is neither a currency nor an asset in the conventional sense; it’s new, a hybrid.
What is the value of gold? It’s shiny, looks nice, and there isn’t a lot of it.
The value of Bitcoin? Ultimate scarcity, frictionless transfer of limitless value across a secure, decentralized, non-fungible blockchain, sovereignty over your wealth, and a store of value that outpaces fiat debasement.
Do you think the future will look more digital or less?

If Apple shares dropped near to $0. I would buy up all the shares, own 100% of the company, fire Tim Cook and make myself chairman and CEO. I would collect $112 billion in net profits every year and give all my friends free iPhones and MacBooks for life.
If Bitcoin dropped to near $0, what would I do with it if I bought all the bitcoins in the world ? Stare at the cute computer code?
That is the difference between a productive asset and a non productive asset

@JJ03massive @prose00999 @LinkofSunshine @Mirs_____ Not really no. They did cause major controversy, because the United States forced a stock purchase that gave control of the company over to the federal government, essentially bailing out the company completely. After this happened, contracts forced the company to pay out execs.
English

@bala_kaye @prose00999 @LinkofSunshine @Mirs_____ Did AIG have a role other than issuing the swaps that caused the cash crisis?
English

@prose00999 @LinkofSunshine @Mirs_____ Kind of, but they leave out AIG’s role in the crisis.
They were the biggest player that caused the shitshow and eventual result of bailouts.
English

@prose00999 @LinkofSunshine @Mirs_____ Short version
banks lend to unqualified people
banks package these mortgages and sell to bigger banks
big banks realize they can make more money off these shit loans by insuring them
AIG insures them
Housing collapses, AIG can’t pay big banks
Big banks fucked
English

@LinkofSunshine @Mirs_____ I don’t know what twitter post or subreddit you’ve been reading, but that isn’t even in the same realm of what happened when broken down.
You’re right that the big short didn’t explain what truly caused the crisis correctly, but you are way off lmfao
English

@Mirs_____ The breakdown of interbank lending. Individual markets fail all the time, but it was this that ultimately caused the financial institutions to break down
