The next Louisiana Purchase? Here’s an idea: the United States acquires the Baja California Peninsula from Mexico for $1 to $5 trillion. Every Mexican citizen living in Baja receives dual U.S.-Mexico citizenship, plus a $50,000 investment account. Then America gets to work: world-class infrastructure, deep-water ports, desalination, nuclear energy, housing, universities, and industry. Tijuana and Mexicali could become major reindustrialization zones. In return, the United States gains nearly 1,800 miles of some of the most spectacular coastline on Earth and the chance to build the great new economic region. Is this a crazy idea? Of course. we wrote 3 different version of engineering change orders before landing on this one. i think it's nice and simple. just define your bom, and we generate the diff and take care of the rest.

I was thinking the same thing. The outstanding individual (champion some people say) is really the difference between success and failure imo. The problem is that it’s hard to fit the whole thing inside of one guy’s head, so it gets optimized for accounting or purchasing or whatever the lens of the guy is if he’s not a top-notch generalist

@BuildBoost @barbinbrad And they are sold on the idea that not will fix people and process problems. Way too many look at the tool pillar alone and ignore the people and process pillars which are equally if not more important and impactful.

@barbinbrad Unfortunately for us someone picked netsuite a year and a half ago and there's so much sunk cost and ego on the line theres zero possibility of changing course or id be deep into carbon rn

@BuildBoost same -- i think right now, i'd consider netsuite + manufacturo or SAP as the incumbent. netsuite is easy for me to understand (CFOs making decisions) but i don't know why people choose manufacturo. they've got some good logos though

No but tbf before I left my last shop we were about to switch to Netsuite from Xtuple and so if they'd asked me at the new shop id have made the same recommend.
Old shop, I did manage a large portion of the ERP, we were managing PNs and BOMs for 1000s of assemblies and 10k's individual parts...

@BuildBoost it's tough because netsuite is genuinely good for finance for most industries -- but when it comes to manufacturing -- it's too complex, it just can't cut it

@coflayed We have a good configurator. In the mid-market ERP space Epicor and M1 have a decent configurator too.

@barbinbrad One of the biggest attractors would be native CRM integration and an attribute based configurator to build configure to order BOMs for the shop floor.

@barbinbrad I like it. AI is having its 1999 dot com moment and no doubt there will be big winners and big losers over the coming months/years. That said, there will always be a million reasons to wait to implement an ERP. Sometimes you just need to start and adjust as necessary.
