Money is a tool, often conflated with materialism, because we live in secular times. @DaveRamsey refers to himself as a custodian of his fortune for God. The modern West was built on entrepreneurial risk.
Allocation is what matters. There are Mid Western / Southerners dressed like hicks but cut YUGE checks.
So Cal, NYC, S Fl, require a level of aesthetic materialism to pass gates. The "right" clothes, watch, knowledge of food, wine, cigars, travel, is prequalification.
People of means pitched constantly, this is why private clubs traditionally existed.
Then came a time where being RW led to harassment, and inability to secure venues. So Mike & @mikebolen had to lay out 7 figures just to have a place congregate, without pomp and circumstance.
The downside, is without gathering, and helping to organize the Billionaires, the wrong projects get funded.
The choices are make the money, work with the money, or end up unable to finance at scale.
