How about the multiple posts by the Pope about “peace” when he was silent on the 30K Iranian citizens and 30K Christian Nigerians. It looks like peace with Iran is imminent. Stocks are way up, and oil prices are way down. The US Navy controls the Strait and the EU countries will take it over at some point. Iran lost everything and they are no longer allowed to enrich uranium. They’ve significantly damaged their relationships with their former Gulf allies. The US military won. They just executed the most flawless and historically unthinkable military operation in my lifetime. We are back! It’s over. The US won. Trump won. And, by extension, the American left lost. They, once again, chose the wrong team. Let their gnashing of teeth and prehistoric animal screeching commence! And I’m here for it! What are your thoughts? Agree or disagree? Please reply. KNOW YOUR MODERN PAPAL HISTORY While it's true that popes supported and even called for wars in the Middle Ages, the reality is that modern popes (20th-21st century) have been remarkably consistent in calling for peace in the midst of wars. During World War I, Pope Benedict XV emphatically called for the end of the war, and he was often criticized (by both sides) for not taking a side. In the lead-up and during World War II, both Pope Pius XI and XII called for peace. Many even today condemn Pius XII in particular for not cheerleading the Allied war efforts. During both Iraq Wars, Pope John Paul II decried the American invasions, and for that many American neo-conservative Catholics rebuked him. So, in other words, Pope Leo XIV is acting exactly like his modern predecessors, and he's getting criticized by the warmongers just like them. I think popes have come to understand that modern war is not like ancient or medieval war, and their role as Vicars of Christ is to call for peace in the midst of death and destruction. TL:DR: Don't expect a pope to support your war in modern times. It's not going to happen.
