I dont begrudge any of that and understand how and why. In turn the industry should acknowledge its still getting more than 50% discount on its IHT.

Capital growth in ag ( land owning) has been huge in my lifetime and has enabled significant bank supported investment. Its hard to make the case for poverty when demos are made in 150hp tractors valued in 6 figs!

Take some solace from knowing your threshold us more than 3 x higher than mine; that your rate of tax is half that which I will face; and that you are given 10 years to pay - I dont!

Everything has to be paid out of income and profit otherwise your business shrinks and we’ll eventually end up back at subsistance farming? IHT is payable on death. Unless you can predict your death down to a tax year, it singles out the unfortunate rather than those most able to pay.

@terrierview I also believe in France 100% of herd is culled if TB found...so zero tolerance of TB in cattle and/or wildlife. I spent a great deal of time in Normandy ( inc with dairy farmers) yet never saw a badger there!

@Simon4NDorset Agree..its remarkable and we all use those systems. We also need to remember this is root cause of decline in high street retail; loss of bank branches etc that we all mourn. Revolutions have consequences!

Sometimes we need to pause to think on the revolution digital has delivered. Last evening at 8.03 I ordered something on line. At 05.08 I receive an email from Royal Mail to say it had my order & will be delivered today. Less than 24 hours. Let’s not take it for granted

If you over capitalize you are exposed to more IHT. I you earn high profit ( joke!) you pay high income tax.

But the arguments currently being made are seriously flawed.

@TU_144_ @NFUtweets @campbellclaret @RestIsPolitics Im not upset...but the reasons and arguments being made need to be clear. A lot of farmers claiming poverty but driving 150hp tractors worth £150k into Whitehall is not a message that will convince anyone other than farmers.
