None of Graham Hick’s six Test hundreds were as famous as the one he never made. On 98 in the Sydney Ashes Test of 1995, Hick was stranded when Mike Atherton declared. With only a couple of minutes left before the 3pm deadline, Hick inexplicably blocked out the final three balls of a Damien Fleming over. Atherton lost patience and declared ungenerously. Hick never went on to score an Ashes hundred, and it was said he didn’t speak to England coach Keith Fletcher for a month afterwards.
