In 711 they conquered Spain, executed resisting men and enslaved women and children. In only about 80 years, nearly three-quarters of Christendom was taken by slaughter and enslavement. But hey, I'm sure it will be different this time.

Free speech is not the right to speak only when everyone already agrees. It is the right to put contested ideas under scrutiny in institutions that claim to exist for exactly that purpose. The Oxford Union’s decision to host the motion was correct in principle. The behaviour outside shows how fragile that principle becomes when the subject is Islam.
