Ah. Valorant just blocks input from Steam controller entirely. So that lasted all of 0 seconds. And now I get to figure out how to uninstall their garbage anticheat, too. Love to play games with shitty bespoke launchers that block input because of (non-functional) anticheat.

Ok it's confirmed. I don't actually care what I'm working on so long as it consists of rabbit holes, problem solving, and has that "YES! IT WORKED!" feeling at the end.
