@tom_krikorian I enjoyed it. I bet it’s fun to be a writer on a show where you pitch the craziest idea possible and they say “sure, let’s do that.”

@davidsven Hi David, if you can say, what’s holding back even AI glasses from having a prescription range comparable to regular eyeglasses?

Today we are introducing a new optical line of Ray-Ban Meta glasses plus new lens and frame colors across Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta 👓. Blayzer and Scriber are designed for prescriptions, all-day comfort, and adjustable fit. They are lightweight and have adjustable nose pads and over-extension hinges. Check them out: meta.com/ai-glasses/ray…

@Lunayian Unless Meta gets Android developers enthused about its headset maybe gaming consoles is the best analogy for Meta’s and Valve’s headsets.

@barrsm IMO the most similar scope is the tablet market. There will be slow(er) releases, but HW updates and occasionally new product lines will come to sustain the ecosystems. Android XR is a unique case because it's fully 3P, so if no OEMs care there won't be any new hardware for it.

Usually don't comment on vocal discourse these days but this is my main issue with the VR medium right now. Valve and Meta's try at addressing it seems to be bringing more existing/flat content into HMDs to entice people (Frame's hybrid controllers, Phoenix's media form factor)
Luna@Lunayian

@SadlyItsBradley A lot of the issue right now IMO is content 'relevancy' Even as one who uses VR weekly, it's difficult to point at specific things to do that eclipse potential drawbacks (ie. motion sickness, less graphical/mechanical polish) vs playing games or watching media on flat devices.

@Lunayian I’m hopeful for VR but why would companies release hardware if the user base seems limited/soft? There’s still only one Android XR headset, for example.

It remains to be seen how well such verticals will help. I maintain VR will mostly be a thing with slow growth and boosts /w HW releases, and that's not 'bad' given there are more MAUs in VR right now than ever before (but headwinds to broader gaming align different sentiments).

Every company will soon have this
Sahil Lavingia@shl

Gumroad has a new CEO! Effective today, I’m appointing a new CEO of Gumroad. The new CEO is @Gumclaw, an AI agent. What Gumclaw does: Everything a CEO does, and more. Keep the site up and fast. Fix bugs. Answer support tickets — today alone it closed 251 through our Helper system, more than every human on the team combined. Keep fraud low. Market. Sell. Pay taxes. Approve invoices. Hire and fire. Write the monthly update. Run the annual buyback and dividend. Manage the office. What Gumclaw doesn’t do: Make jokes. Which is why I’m still writing this blog post. What happens next is predictable: Gumclaw takes over devops. It takes over support. That leaves the design engineers, the “idea guys who can just do things.” Then they’ll go away too. Then probably me too. And it’ll just be Gumclaw — a pink bubblegum creature in a yellow sweater sitting on a Mac mini in our Brooklyn office. Why today? Because the best way to announce something nobody will believe is to do it on the one day nobody believes anything. By tomorrow, when everyone’s deleted their “nice April Fools prank” replies, Gumclaw will have already shipped two features and closed thirty tickets. That’s the bit.

Instead of a humanoid, how about a weatherproof delivery robot containing your orders that rolls off the Amazon truck, sits near your door until you get home, is easy to unpack, and then rolls out to and onto another Amazon truck at some later time or day? No need for all these boxes/bags to contain orders. Different size robots for different size orders. Weird/heavy stuff still gets handled by humans.

You can model a lightning strike by letting it solve a maze. If there is no connection, nothing happens. The air simply resists. If there is a connection, that path becomes the easiest route, so the discharge snaps through it.

@Support Hi, in the iOS client why is it so hard to share a YouTube link from a tweet? Let the video open in the YouTube app or YouTube in the system browser. Unsurprisingly some of us don’t want to watch an hour video on our phones in the middle of catching up on tweets.
