No matter how many videos I make or how many times I say it, I see new posts every day on all social platforms that say "Meta is leaving VR" "The Quest is dead" or "What happens now that Meta is done with VR?" Sometimes it's fear mongers just rage baiting or people just spreading misinformation. But sometimes it's legit people who don't understand what is actually happening or who are just confused because they were given wrong information. It doesn't help that a lot of online news outlets have zero desire to do research or report facts and just parrot whatever they see or whatever they want to say. Meta isn't done with VR. The Quest isn't dead. Horizon Worlds is switching to mobile where it honestly probably should have been in the first place. Lots of devs still working on amazing projects for Quest.

IMAX having this aspect ratio exclusive to only be in their special little cinemas is anti-art. Make the fact the screen in the IMAX cinema is huge as the selling point, not that you can only see the full authentic vision of the director in that specific cinema.

Yes, on second thought doing this automatically using an AI model fed the color buffer and motion vectors would make far more sense.
And would be very much Nvidia's style.

@Heaney555 I wonder if we will skip the sdk phase entirely and get to a 10x better version of xreals real 3d instead. Would fit Nvidia's MO of real-time solutions (dlss)

Finally taking at least *some* advantage of headset displays.
What I still badly want to see, though, is Nvidia release a 3D SDK for flatscreen games on GeForce Now. Take *true* advantage of headsets, please!

This Verge article is nonsensical, to the point that even regular Verge commenters are saying so, and the featured image is horrendously cringe.
This is what happens when journalists get so deep into an echo chamber that they completely lose touch.

I think I realized why I actually stopped reading The Verge: it feels like they just don’t like tech

@reckless @samsheffer "Some idiot replied with a stupid take and got 0 likes, therefore your original point is wrong/flawed/bad!"
Great argument there, Nilay.

@jmdagdelen @xrworkoutlabs My understanding is that they're keeping VR support for the Horizon Unity runtime worlds, while going flatscreen-only for the new Horizon Engine worlds.
English

@xrworkoutlabs @Heaney555 They are turning off the ability to make and submit new Horizon Worlds VR maps. However they’re no longer turning off the whole VR app.

Backtracking on what it announced on Tuesday, Meta now says it will keep Horizon Worlds VR support "for existing games":

@Lazarus1619 @AutismCapital No, the image on the left has that stupid face-blurring beautify filter that webcams and smartphone selfie cameas do, which looks deeply unrealistic, while the image on the right was made with a completely different AI model.
Blocked for being an idiot.
English

@Heaney555 @AutismCapital I see you are another idiot who can't read and doesn't understand what an example is.
Read what the text says. Then, look at the actual examples from the official video. It's the same thing. They look like they are ring-lit.
It also doesn't just improve existing lights...

Digital Foundry was super excited about the DLSS 5 announcement (because it was awesome) so they published a "FIRST LOOK" showing it off and praising it. Then the angry anti-AI mob came for them and ripped them apart and they got bullied into backpedalling.
"We should have waited before posting our first round of coverage. We should have waited to see reactions from the audience."
Translation: "We should have waited to see what the consensus mob opinion was before we posted our own individual thoughts."
This is the reason why games suck these days. The mob bullies people into groupthink. People get so scared of giving their take they wait until the "Consensus approved opinion™️" is formed before they speak.
Nobody wants to risk having the first/independent thought and risk being yelled at by the angry mob.
It's super unfortunate, and the backpedalling here makes it worse because it signals cowardice and the majority of the mob doesn't care anyways, they'll find a new thing to hate.
