Your question suggests five senators could oust him in the middle of his term as leader. That’s not true. In the House of Representatives, a tiny number of lawmakers can oust the speaker—at any time. That feature is unique to the House. In the Senate GOP we don’t even have a rule or procedure for replacing a leader in the middle of a two-year term. It is true that under our rules, any five senators can call for a meeting of the entire conference at any time. But in practice, that kind of meeting tends not to materialize unless a solid majority of the conference wants it to happen. Even if such a meeting were called and even if it actually materialized, it still wouldn’t end as you seem to assume. To pursue the outcome you’re suggesting, one would have to use that meeting to propose a new procedure for a mid-term leadership swap, and that—at a minimum—would require a majority of the conference to support it. For a whole host of reasons—including the fact that Senator Thune is beloved by colleagues and very popular within the conference—the odds of that happening are literally 0 in 100,000.

Two years ago, I was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, and given six months to a year to live. I spent the past two years, trying numerous forms of treatment; radiation, chemo, a couple different kinds of targeted drug therapy, immunotherapy, and surgeries. I, also kept power over my health where I could do so. I fired my first oncologist who didn’t include me in the decision making. She basically viewed me as The Walking Dead. I found an oncologist who thought outside of the box and completely believed in my power to fight. I didn’t stop working out. I cut sugar from my diet (Keto), And I turned my worries to God. My body is bruised and beaten but my oncologist has informed me today that my latest CT-Scan with contrast, shows no active cancer. I’m not ringing any bell; I know the likelihood of reoccurrence is a strong probability. Yet, this is a major triumph that I want to share with my many friends on here who supported me. Trump just sent a letter to Congress saying the war in Iran is “terminated” because today marks 60 days and in order for the President to have the authority to continue, the Constitution requires a vote from Congress. But the war is not really terminated. Trump is just restarting the clock to avoid a vote from Congress that may limit his power to wage a war on Iran, and the war is absolutely not over just because there has been a ceasefire. Also, Trump is about to start military actions again very soon. It never ended. This is unconstitutional and Congress should reclaim it’s constitutional authority.

Today's Supreme Court decision reverses hard-won progress under the Voting Rights Act. It means less representation for millions of Black Americans and other voters of color, as lawmakers gain greater ability to manipulate their districts. There will be more extreme partisan gerrymandering, lopsided elections, less accountable government, and policies that hurt rather than help with everyday life. But this is no time to be demoralized, because we know it does not have to be this way. We can mobilize around reform, new laws, and where necessary, constitutional amendments for fairer government. Only then can we feel the benefits of a balanced Court, a truly representative Congress, and an election system free from the distorting power of extreme corporate and partisan manipulation.
