The world is gone mad when the US president is insulting the Pope and the most sensible Republican voice I hear now is @FmrRepMTG

@mrddmia I'd say the Catholic Bishops are more outraged by the US murdering innocent Iranians than Donald's Truth Social Posts

Dear Catholic Bishops: You’ve been more publicly outraged about Trump’s Truth posts than Iran-backed Islamists slaughtering Christians.

@SethAbramson I'd put Israel 2nd on a list of most likely to use a nuke, just behind USA based on prior history and a crazy incumbent President and his cronies.

Given the way the IDF is acting—like genocidal savages—shouldn't we be considerably *more* concerned about Israel having nuclear weapons than almost anyone else? In 47 years, the death toll from Iranian-sponsored terrorism appears to match approximately 3 hours of IDF bombardment

@allcods @dlLambo @abierkhatib You said that Israel had to have a reason to attack the wedding. Now you say the IDF try hard to avoid killing innocent people. If you believe the 1st statement is true then you know the 2nd is a lie. The IDF has killed thousands of innocents in Gaza and Lebanon.

@barrydean22 @dlLambo @abierkhatib The IDF does actually try hard to avoid killing people who are innocent. Unfortunately that can’t be said for their adversaries who are quite happy to do so even when it involves their own people

Israel admitted bombing A WEDDING in Gaza City yesterday. They murdered 7 people inc a 4 month old baby. You won't hear about this on any news station, because they're Palestinians and Israel did it. If an Israeli wedding was bombed you'd know their names, faces and stories.

@elonmusk For a smart guy, you'd believe any old nonsense. People are protesting rising fuel prices caused by DJTs crazy war with Iran. Got any view on that topic, you've been a bit quiet on the biggest issue in the world right now?

@barrydean22 @__DrAwkward__ @EwanMacKenna Great, so you tell us your plan for actually stopping Trump and we will all get on board, but, until then, we need the lavishly wasted public finances rejigging a little so we can get on with life. #fuelprotest
Barry Dean@barrydean22

@__DrAwkward__ @EwanMacKenna Ordinary households have to pay €900 for 500 litres of home heating oil. It was under €500 in January. The shared enemy in this case is Trump/MAGA but the #fuelprotest is targeting ordinary people to get a deal for farm/haulage businesses.

I hope I'm wrong but I always think us Irish have a gombeen streak. What will folk think if the truckers and farmers come out of talks with subsidies for themselves rather than reduced costs for all? In other words inconvenienced everyone else to get some of their taxes?

@EwanMacKenna 2 and 4 are the main issues for most people. Plus, Trump caused the fuel price shock and yet half the online fuel protest supporters are pro Maga!

I sense the protests are losing support for five reasons... 1. The rationale. Lower taxes now but no protests when higher taxes. 2. The nefarious actors hijacking this. 3. The swathes of support for the reasons for the prices hikes (Trump and Israel). 4. Hurting ordinary people who also have bills and jobs, by targeting the wrong places. 5. There's a fair sense the demands are "give us money", the rest don't matter. Again I'm not against them, in principle, and understand much of it, but even as somewhat of an anarchist I'm reluctant to jump on this as it's far from black and white.

@GayeDalton @__DrAwkward__ @EwanMacKenna I think the challenge is yours. Tell us how much a fuel tax break for farmers and hauliers will cost and who will pay for it via 1) higher taxes or 2) lower benefits?

@barrydean22 @EwanMacKenna But those assets are necessary to run their business. Try haulage without a truck or growing food without a farm! Rather than advocating a race to the bottom and resenting each other, let's for once unite against our actual shared enemies

@EwanMacKenna Haulage businesses and farmers have an inordinate dependence on fuel costs compared to normal folk. I can well believe many will go to the wall without help. The road haulage union and IFA do not really represent the little guys.

Global events and Trump/MAGA madness cause fuel prices to rocket. Everyone hates that. However, the #fuelprotest in Ireland believes that Haulage companies and farmers can hold the rest of us hostage to demand a deal just for them. They prioritise themselves over ordinary people

@lovemycounty7 @annie_mcginley If you believe "most of the country " are not happy, why haven't other parties been voted into Government? Be honest, the current fuel prices are triggered by Trump/MAGA, not the tax %. Are you a MAGA fan by any chance?

@lovemycounty7 @annie_mcginley Most of us, stick to our own echo chambers on Social media and think our view is held by the majority. Then when General Elections happen, those anti establishment claim it's a fix. Reality in this case, USA caused the price increase and most of don't support being held hostage.
