@allenholub The math subject that I find I use most often (and which I'm glad I took) is probability and statistics. Comes in handy very often when dealing with things like load balancing for example. Calculus, not so much.

When I was in school, I was forced to take a year of calculus and an additional semester of differential equations. I never used any of it. Not in any CS class. Not afterward in the workplace. This is not an unusual CS requirement. Can somebody explain why to me? (And pls don't go down the "learn complex systems route—you can do that with Latin.)

@rickwaalders Sadly no. But I find that when you have alerts set up through slack (for example) there is really not much need for an app. Any kind of in depth analysis wouldn't work on a phone anyway.

Interesting how, when I was in the US recently, several takeaway places had a “cash only” sign. In the Netherlands, it’s the opposite: lots of small cafes and takeaways not accepting cash any more.

@erolalkan I recently exchanged my imac for macbook air m2 and it is so much faster. Definitely recommended. Had to say goodbye to some legacy vsts like Absynth though (although it works in Rosetta but then I need to run ableton in Rosetta too)

Finally! I moved off Google Authenticator earlier this year because there was no practical way to back up 2FA codes. This change is a sensible one, and one that makes GA more practical to rely on.

@JustAnotherPM IMO this is a bad user story. As a homeowner, I don't think about supporting the roof. I want to stay dry when it rains and stay warm when it's cold outside. I'll leave it to the engineers to figure out the solution.

@SergioRocks A CS degree is neither sufficient nor required for a software engineer, but it does help a lot to become a better software engineer. Also, computer science is much more than "how computers work".

Computer Science degrees are mostly obsolete, because they teach about how computers work. Software Engineering is about how people use computers, what they build with them, and how they collaborate over the internet. Thus, a CS degree is largely irrelevant for most SWEs.
