hmm wasn't Axie a 10x improvement? what game in web2 does any p2e that's anywhere near, say, MoG level? CS requires crazy hours for a chance to earn, the rest of it is gambling. Gold farming in WoW was so much effort. sincere questions Mr Jihoz, plz explain
Jihoz.ron@Jihoz_Axie

BTW. It's not that play2earn is not working. It's that play2earn is working so well in web2 that web3 is not a 10x improvement yet. That will change over the coming years as AI induced wage displacement creates covid-level necessity for skill-based stimulus.

I finally cracked the GenAI HUD workflow for games. The trick is NOT “generate one pretty UI PNG and slap it on screen.” The real pipeline: 1. Generate the concept 2. Regenerate each usable part separately 3. Chroma-key + cut transparency with Pillow 4. Measure the transparent cutout spaces in Pillow 5. Use those exact pixel bounds for live CSS layers 6. Build the HUD in React/Svelte with real state, text, inputs, bars, and animation That’s how HP bars, sockets, tabs, chat panes, action slots, and scroll areas sit INSIDE the art instead of floating on top of it. GenAI gives the fantasy detail. Pillow gives production measurements. CSS/SVG gives behavior. React/Svelte makes it a real game UI. Thread 👇

I like the sentiment. I don’t agree with the premise. I’d say abstraction is actually logical. Otherwise we’d all be writing in 1s and 0s. Each level of abstraction adds needed value but the value must continue to outweigh the cost. That’s the difference between good design and a messy maze of abstraction. At some point someone will make a decision that affects every decision that follows. Try and make good ones.

The hidden cost of "enterprise" .NET architecture: Debugging hell. I've spent 13+ years in .NET codebases, and I keep seeing the same pattern: Teams add layers upon layers, to solve the problems they don't have. IUserService calls IUserRepository. IUserRepository wraps IUserDataAccess. IUserDataAccess calls IUserQueryBuilder. IUserQueryBuilder finally hits the database. I've seen a lot of classes having one-line methods whose sole purpose was to call the next layer and that's it. But to change one validation rule, you step through 5 layers. To fix a bug, you open 7 files. The justification is always the same: "What if we need to swap out Entity Framework?" "What if we switch databases?" "What if we need multiple implementations?" What if this, what if that. The reality: Those "what ifs" don't come to life in 99% of cases. I haven't worked on a project where we had to swap the ORM. But I've seen dozens of developers waste hours navigating through abstraction mazes. This happens with both new and experienced developers. New developers asking on Slack all the time: "Where to put this new piece of code?" But senior developers are too busy to answer that message. Why? Because they are debugging through the code that has more layers than a wedding cake. The end result? You spend more time navigating than building. Good abstractions hide complexity. Bad abstractions ARE the complexity. And most enterprise .NET apps? Way too much of the second kind.

For 100% agent-written frontends, I keep coming back to this: Maybe we don't start with a frontend framework Maybe we start with an index.html, browser primitives, Web Components for reusable UI and a strict convention for how agents route, render, mutate state and handle data

i'm done with nextjs. rsc looks good on paper but in practice turns simple apps into distributed systems nobody asked for. you stop thinking in react and start thinking in server/client boundaries and caching rules. it adds abstraction instead of clarity

Officially canceling our Anthropic plan, it’s Codex + Cursor for my little 16 person eng team. Anthropic is great for companies that can spend $2,000/mo and up per engineer, but not affordable for us. Codex really upped their game recently, and with GPT 5.5, it’s just so good, and so token efficient. Still using Cursor plenty, my team still looks and reviews a lot of code. But with Cursor, we’ve never hit a limit, and Composer 2 is pretty awesome for most stuff. Testing out Droid as well and see some good early results with Droid + GLM 5.1, but still more testing to do before rolling it out to the whole team. My guess is many more engineering leaders will be sending messages like this. Anthropic makes great stuff but phew, it’s so darn token hungry. My team loves Codex and Cursor, onward!

. @AquariumQuestCo dungeons should be out sometime this year. This will be the main single-player progression mode. Gameplay is inspired by Digimon World 2. It's not going to be some lame MOG knockoff, although the overworld traversal might look similar (grid-based fog of war)
