It's important to understand that this assymetry doesn't just explain establishment conservative behavior, it also explains centrist behavior and really anyone in public life who might associate with and/or share an opinion with someone who the NYT says is "bad." It may seem trivial, but any prominent person standing up in support of Trump and the right broadly, or voicing a heterodox opinion on immigration for example––whatever else you think of their politics or work––is exhibiting a small gesture of real courage.

Trump never called for vigilante assassinations. The left has. Trump said mean things about people who died who were very vicious to him. You can disagree with it. You can call it in bad taste. I did. But he never called for, or justified, cold blooded murder. The left has.
