@riemannsurface1 @MichaelOkun Yes the operationalization of “substantial” remains a work in progress. Right now, the criteria specify one example as 5+ years of American football participation. Such cutoffs have not yet been proposed for other sports or exposure types, nor for number of symptomatic events.

@riemannsurface1 @MichaelOkun “Substantial” refers to the amount/duration of exposure to repetitive impacts, not the severity or magnitude of any given impact. TES research criteria require that someone has a history of substantial repetitive head impact exposure (see Katz et al 2021 for details).

Time to change your slides for students and families. Parkinson’s disease + history of head trauma (risk factor) vs Traumatic Encephalopathy Syndrome (TES). Lot of discussion this week about retiring the terms punch drunk and dementia pugilistica. Thanks @BAsken8 for teaming up.

Younes et al. show that right-predominant anterior temporal lobe degeneration is characterized by a progressive decline in semantic knowledge for socioemotionally relevant concepts, and propose that it should be named ‘semantic behavioural variant FTD’. bit.ly/3bvnmMy

@DocHerceg Absolutely devastating story if true. Punishment needs to be drastic if they mislead AD research for 15 years based on falsified data/images.

Amyloid, tau and metabolic PET correlates of cognition in early and late-onset Alzheimer’s disease. Findings support tau PET as a biomarker that captures both the clinical severity and molecular pathology specific to AD. bit.ly/3yXs25E Jeremy A Tanner @RabLab_UCSF

Tanner et al. show that tau and neurodegeneration, but not amyloid, are similarly associated with cognition in both early and late-onset Alzheimer’s disease. bit.ly/3AhL0GI
