I’ve been spending almost every single gaming minute over the last 2 months playing Marathon. After the server test I wasn’t really sold but when the full release came out, and the full experience came with it, I have not been able to put it down or get it off my mind

There's no "ideology" in Marathon. It does not at all comment on contemporary politics. It's a dark sci-fi shooter designed by a team that made a point of eschewing AI, unlike other studios. Right-wing grifters like this guy don't care about that and couldn't tell you what is "woke" about Marathon if you pressed them because there's nothing there. Every single one of these culture war losers is some species of creative failure who gave up trying to make things or never tried and now just traffics in the dumbest content imaginable. They can't even enjoy the things they claim are their hobbies and interests, but just sort of parasitically attach themselves to whine for attention.

Sony spent $3.6 billion on Bungie. Marathon peaks at 17k players after 2 months. Meanwhile, 7 devs in France are crushing it with Far Far West. Players want FUN, not ideology.

Marathon is a victim of 4 things:
1.Sony’s live service reputation.
2. Bungie’s D2 baggage.
3. Online grifters who's most played game is steamdb player charts.
4. The playtests were terrible.
The game itself is genuinely one of the best shooters in a decade.

As brain-dead as the steam chart spammers are it really does make me sad that more people aren't playing Marathon. Underrated isn't even the right word, it's just artificially hated which is just a bummer.

- Hate campaign fueled by the usual grifters & the people who feel burned about Destiny 2 despite it being an 8yr+ old game
- Extraction Shooters are niche, especially one that doesnt hold your hand every step of the way which scares off the modern casual audience
- Early Alpha Playtest, Art Scandal & the delay to the original release landed a back to back to back blow that spawned nothing but negative talks about the game. Just look at Paul Tassi’s headlines during that time lol
- Cheaters aren’t a rampant issue to like 90% of the playerbase but since that 10% is mostly occupied by streamers, it would seem like it
Probably my 4 biggest reasons with the cheating one being very distant in contributing to the actual reason.

The Addermire Institute is probably the most underrated level of the game, I vividly remember spending hours exploring its abandoned halls on my first playthrough almost ten years ago.

Hugely terrible DRM has now been rolled out to all PS4 and PS5 digital games. Every digital game you buy now requires an online check-in every 30 days. If you buy a digital game and don't connect your console to the internet for 30 days, your license will be removed.

It's fun. Definitely quite obviously early access, but with some tweaks I see a lot there to get into.
Right now best played with at least one other though. Feels like combat would be really tough solo with the enemy packs you get hit with.
Maybe they can work on scaling based on number of people playing or something.

Gaming is in such a weird, unpredictable state right now.
On the one hand we have GREAT games coming out almost daily. A game like Windrose can sell a million copies in a week, indies like Replaced and Mouse PI For Hire doing great and massive AAA like Crimson Desert doing well.
On the other hand studios are shutting down left and right, the big guys keep laying off and the economics of gaming is just brutal. Even great games are struggling to gain an audience at times.
It’s like games are too expensive and take too long to develop, but there’s also too many great games that gamers can’t afford it all. But the success stories are huge success stories.

The IGN review of Mouse PI For Hire is like a parody of game journalists. They gave the game a 6/10 (reminder that they gave Black Ops 7 a 7/10) for the following reasons:
-Too many cheese references (in a world of mice)
-You kill too many people (yes, really. You kill people in a shooter, what a surprise)
-There isn't enough noir (in a game inspired by 1930s Mickey Mouse cartoons)
-Too many references to old movies (in a game explicitly inspired by 1930s cinema)
-There's too many arenas where you have to kill all enemies (in a fucking boomer shooter)
-The game's story is not serious enough to be a true noir (when did the fucking game ever CLAIM to be a true noir? It's a fucking cartoon)
This motherfucker seriously looked at a satirical game inspired by 1930s Mickey Mouse cartoons and expected to play LA Noire or some shit. Games journalists are not real people, man.
