Synnax Index Pulse (Apr 26-May 3, 2026) The Synnax Mid-Cap AltCoin Index finished Apr 26-May 3 down about 1.5%, lagging the crypto majors and U.S. equity benchmarks while still holding ahead of Gold. Bitcoin $BTC led the chart at roughly +1.3%, the NASDAQ closed near +1.1%, the S&P 500 gained about +0.9%, and the Dow Jones finished around +0.5%. Ethereum $ETH recovered to just below flat, while Gold stayed weak at roughly -2.0%. The path was more bearish than the close: the index popped to about +1% on Apr. 27, slid to roughly -3.5% by May 1, and only partially recovered into the weekend. The macro tape explains the split. Reuters reported S&P 500 and NASDAQ record closes as robust earnings and lower crude helped equities look through inflation risk, while the Fed held rates at 3.50%-3.75% in its most divided vote since 1992 and BEA reported 2.0% Q1 GDP alongside hotter PCE and core PCE prices. In crypto, April ETF inflows kept Bitcoin $BTC relatively well bid, but that demand did not rotate cleanly into Ethereum $ETH or the mid-cap alt stack.

@bazzilic @tom_sadeh @bendee983 I... Wow... I've seen people miss the point, but you outright went in the complete opposite direction without ever looking back. Forget about compilers, I worry you might be deterministically stupid.

Compilers are deterministic. Give them the same code with the same compiler settings, and you'll always receive the same binary. You can take responsibility for your software at the code level. LLMs, on the other hand, are stochastic. Even if you set the temperature to zero, you're likely to get different responses on the same prompt. Therefore, you need to understand the code it produces if you want to take ownership and responsibility for it.
Darren Shepherd@ibuildthecloud

We're definitely going to get to the point where handwriting code doesn't make sense. Similar to handwriting assembly doesn't make sense. But the analogy breaks down. Developers don't really know assembly and they can't really review assembly. On top of it, the assembly that's produced by compilers is so optimized and confusing that you can't even understand it. For AI the code that's being produced, the developer needs to understand it could have written it themselves but it's just not as efficient or safe to do so. AI is not a new abstraction layer. It is a tool to create something you understand. We still need people to understand the mechanics of coding. We still need people to learn these skills and these are important skills. And even with the power of AI, you can't get away with not knowing these skills if you want to be effective. As always, there'll be people who try to take shortcuts and they'll get short-term gains and then it will fall apart.

@SadTreachery @tom_sadeh @bendee983 Adding a space to the prompt actually changes the input vector that might demand a different activation path The point is - LLMs are intrinsically deterministic. A compilers are not. The OP tweet is either bait or uninformed opinion

@bazzilic @tom_sadeh @bendee983 Variables actually add something that might demand a different memory structure. You can change any name and almost nothing happens. Because it doesn't affect the program.

@tom_sadeh @bendee983 What if two tokens end up with the exact same probability? Which one you choose? LLMs are also extremely chaotic, a simple extra space or tab instead of space might derail the entire thing.

@Grady_Booch ah yes, the new hire looked at an unfamiliar codebase for TWO MINUTES and immediately dunked on it also - gave up refactoring after two hours? what is with the timing in this post? lastly - why do you do vibe coding but manual refactoring?

Is there any real evidence that forcing users to change their passwords every ___ months actually improves security? It seems more likely they won't remember their password, writing it down places they shouldn't or triggering less-secure password resets

@rgb53562 @rolandbouman Compilers were also never 'unreliable'. They produced unoptimized code sure, but they almost always produced *correct* unoptimized code. That is not the case with LLMs.

@rolandbouman In the early days when compilers were still unreliable, people actually looked at the assembly. Any bugs were reported to the compiler maker. And so the errors were slowly expunged, and reliability was achieved. Not something you can really do with LLMs.

@stisov16 @Adriksh superior to what? yeah, all they need to do is lock in and improve UI, performance, reliability, stability, change several fundamental approaches to creating desktop applications.. that’s all they need to do.
