@bballbreakdown Because he has no defense.
English

@MCRunninCowboys Oh, I know I learned you had to jump off 2 feet in the 80s, sadly.
English

@bballbreakdown It’s shocking to me for anyone who has ever played the game to think it’s a travel. I understand guys who never played but had a JH PE football coach tell them that they have to keep pivot foot down. Layups/Jump Shot/Step-Through. I grew up watching Hakeem so I had advantage.
English

This, my friends, is not a jump onto the non pivot foot. Has never been a jump, either.

Boopie Miller step through

@NothingButNet44 @GunterJPN @CoachLok Perhaps you don't realize that it IS a gather step, and it exists in the NBA and FIBA rulebooks. And yes, fans often lack enough attention to detail to realize they've been seeing gathers steps for decades and decades
English

@bballbreakdown @GunterJPN @CoachLok It’s not a gather step! It’s a travel! This is classic attempt to rename something to make it sound less egregious
No idea why they don’t call it. Din’t call moving screens either. Doesn’t make it right
And yes, people hate it. It’s impossible to guard if offense can break rules
English

@nittygritty410 @FritzDwayne1 And there have been many games where he's a plus. Even in the worst of instances, maybe 3 possessions of scoring due to his defense. Which is dwarfed by the 50 points he's creating on the other end
English

@MCRunninCowboys It's shocking that anyone under 25 would think it's a travel
English

@bballbreakdown My favorite part of the video is the guy on the bench who signals travel. There’s always one and they think they’re right even though every basketball expert will say it’s legal.
English

@NothingButNet44 @GunterJPN @CoachLok The thing is, tons of layups at the college and HS level utilize the gather step. No one bats an eye, no whistle
English

@NothingButNet44 @GunterJPN @CoachLok The rules from the VERY beginning understood that it was impossible to stop on a dime and gave extra steps
English

@GunterJPN @bballbreakdown @CoachLok C’mon let’s be serious
The very 1st rule of basketball was no running with the ball
Even as the game has evolved the effort has been made yo maintain that with integrity
Can’t change pivot foot once it is established and dribble has been given up
Can’t take 3 steps on a drive
English

@CoachLok @NothingButNet44 Well.... by rule in college, it would be a travel. But not one bats an eye at this footwork which is why they should just add it to the rulebook for college and HS
English

@NothingButNet44 @bballbreakdown But it's not.
He caught the ball with his left foot on the ground. Went right, left, and up.
English

@3cbPerformance It's kinda crazy how long it took for us to take this from tennis and apply it to the basketball court. Wish I had it when I was playing
English

That footwork is called the split step. Most common in tennis but can be applied to any sport where you have to change direction and explode
BBALLBREAKDOWN@bballbreakdown
Dear Lord this was an amazing LeBron catch and dunk. Pay attention to the footwork on the backdoor cut. He lifts both feet off the floor and splits to utilize ground reaction forces to explode past his man to the hoop. Learn this footwork.

@armonballin_ KD isn't really pushing. Smart is impeding progress
English

@bballbreakdown Because we see the call in reverse a lot where the defender will push a player who is setting the screen to get a quick switch and it’s called a foul. Makes sense to call it both ways if the offensive player pushes or holds you to get a screen.
English

@bballbreakdown if smart made contact first then I could see the point your making but KD pushed first so it was the right call
English

@bballbreakdown KD pushing smart into the screener is the foul that happens first, but it wouldn’t get called if smart doesn’t sell it by grabbing him while he’s falling over.
