@wartortlemorty @vishnusreekr exactly, yeah. (it's also important to remember that bayesian methods, unlike other analysis methods, allow for the direct incorporation of domain expertise via the prior, among other benefits--- but yep, you've got the contrast right ✅)

@wartortlemorty @vishnusreekr ... priors, defines a generative cognitive model. we use bayesian methods *only* to estimate the parameters---as an alternative to using max likelihood, SGD, grid search, etc. (only the latter example is a bayesian cognitive model.)

@wartortlemorty @vishnusreekr sure! it's a common question. to model decisions, you could propose a bayesian reasoner, in which case bayes' theorem is the data-generating process. instead, say you propose a cumulative prospect theory model. we also introduce the matstanlib library (github.com/baribault/mats…) to help demonstrate good workflow for bayes cog modeling in MATLAB 📉📈📊 matstanlib automates the diagnostic checks & plots required of bayesian models (& was used to generate almost all plots in the paper! 4/5)
