Sector Charter Councils collate sector-specific data, while the @bbbeecommission consolidates national transformation trends. But inconsistent reporting standards and limited comparability of data have weakened evidence-based policy refinement.

@bbbeecommission Minister Tau has called on Sector Charter Councils to reposition themselves as visible champions and watchdogs of transformation — proactive drivers of sustainable growth, not passive administrators of compliance. #InclusiveGrowth

@bbbeecommission Discussions will examine improved data systems, stronger collaboration with compliance & enforcement institutions, and sustainable funding models to expand economic participation. A more coherent, impact-oriented framework is the intended outcome.

@bbbeecommission A key concern: Mobility of black professionals across management levels remains very weak. Despite policy intent and employment equity frameworks, upward movement into senior and executive management is not keeping pace with transformation targets. #ManagementControl

@bbbeecommission In the transport sector — with its many sub-sectors — ownership scores show relative strength. Average achievement of ownership targets improved significantly: 🔹 ±50% (2013) 🔹 77% (2018) 🔹 80% (2023) Progress is visible — but still below full target attainment.

@bbbeecommission Enterprise & Supplier Development (ESD) shows gradual improvement across sectors, but performance remains a “game of small margins.” There is movement in a positive direction — yet stagnation persists in several industries. Incremental change is not enough.

@bbbeecommission Skills Development — despite being a high-weighted priority element — remains subdued across the board. Ownership may be improving gradually, but management control, skills development and meaningful economic participation remain structural challenges.

@bbbeecommission Building on the Commissioner's overview, Minister Parks Tau describes today as a landmark moment on B-BBEE. For the first time, all 11 Sector Charter Councils are convened in one room with the policy custodian to chart the future of economic transformation.

@bbbeecommission The Minister acknowledged candidly: it should not have taken this long to convene in this manner. But the purpose is clear — transformation will not succeed unless all stakeholders embrace, defend and implement it with conviction. Partnership is non-negotiable.

@bbbeecommission “The state alone cannot transform the economy. But neither can market forces alone determine our destiny.” Inclusive growth, he emphasised, is the only sustainable growth — built on shared accountability between government, business, labour and communities.
