2:28 p.m. — Still plenty of time to go with this storm Moderate to occasionally heavy sleet continues across the area as we trudge through midafternoon. Many places have picked up 1 to 3 inches of sleet since the change over this morning. That much sleet could have been about 3 to 9 inches of snow. With a coastal low developing east of the Virginia Capes, cold air remains entrenched. Temperatures have run on the cold side today as readings are still in the upper teens to lower 20s within a county or two of D.C. Somewhat milder mid- and upper 20s have made it to Southern Maryland. Waves of moderate to heavy sleet will continue to roll through over the next several hours. Some freezing rain is also occurring in Southern Maryland and that will trend northwest with time while racing the end of the heaviest precipitation into evening. Charles and Prince George’s will be the first to feel more of that impact locally over the next few hours. The steadiest activity appears to wind down in the 7 to 10 p.m. window, earliest west and latest east, although some shift is still possible there. Our next update will be by 4p.
