8 years ago today my world changed after suffering a “widow maker” heart attack at the age of 47. Just finished my 3 mile run for the day at age 55. I fight every day for one more day with my family, friends and team. As Toby Keith said… ”Don’t let the old man in!”

Most people think heart disease is something that creeps up quietly after 65. But death rates from heart disease are now rising fastest in middle-aged adults. Heart disease starts much earlier in life than most people think.

Airport beer at 5 PM on a Friday hits a little differently after a full day of meaningful work. Wrapping up an excellent National Kidney Foundation working group focused on defining best practices to build stronger teams and programs that can better address care gaps in cardiometabolic disease, particularly where CKD and cardiovascular risk intersect. A lot of important ideas, strong collaboration, and real shared purpose around how we design better systems of care for complex patients. Grateful for the conversation and the people in the room.
