A Conversation Overdue. I called my father for the first time in 3 months. He hasn't been doing well with cancer and all, but he was happy to hear from me, although he didn't say it, I could tell by the sound of his voice. I got a chance to tell him my three month journey. He was excited to hear about it. I was just as excited to tell it. Back in May, I lost my job and our 3rd child was born 2 weeks later. My partner and I started a food catering business 5 years back which she managed mostly, but with her not being able to work and the summer filling up with events, I decided not to go back and find work and instead took reigns over doing all the cooking. (We don't have employees. Just contracted workers.) It's been a success as the busy season winds down. I told him about our plans to get a food truck after this winter and how we plan to use this to catapult us to the next level. I also told him how I plan to get my nieces and nephews involved more and hopefully can this start the second generation milestone for our family in the US. He loved the news. I enjoyed making his day brighter. It was a conversation overdue.

I learned a brutal lesson recently. After being attacked by a cactus. Don’t touch everything! Even if you’re curious, don’t touch! I never grew up around cactus. So I was curious about what was inside these pink fruits on all the cactus. Me: “ooh, what are these little pink fruits?” *Pulls off fruit, drops it on ground, and crushes to see what’s inside* LET ME TELL YOU! I was ATTACKED by the cactus fruit; its little thorns covered my fingers like small splinters. They ended up all over my face, my lips, and basically all over me! Every time the wind brushed across my skin, not only did I discover one on my eye lid and lips, but I’d also feel all the angry little splinters at once. 2 miles from my car in the heart of Cactus Fruit City, I rushed to the car to grab my tweezers. Where I plucked these prickly critters one-by-one out of my face, fingers, arms, lips, and hands. Lesson learned, cactus are mean don’t disturb them.

Surround yourself with people who love, believe, and encourage you. Make a reputation so strong that you never have to convince yourself to keep going, or that you’re good enough - When you do right by others…they will remind you that YOU matter, YOU make a difference, YOU do something much bigger than yourself. ♥️
