@memristor @RachelZader careful with the tretinoin!! It makes your face soooo supple but it's really bad for your face in the sunlight (I usually fully go off of it when the weather gets nice, for before I go on vacation)

@RachelZader my bf doesn't do anything for his face but he still has PERFECT skin... I also heard shaving exfoliates really well, so they have an unfair advantage lol

similar to how that site tracked parking ticket officers, someone should make a site that tracks the street cleaners (so I can swoop in behind them and snag a spot on the empty street)

@amrayupon literally soooo crazy 😭 he would have virtual 1:1's with his directs in our open-layout office and yell at them for not meeting expectations - essentially publicly shaming them in our office. like sir...why did you not get a meeting room for this! wild stuff he got away with.

@beachski_ The effff... so corrupt. I feel like that was happening at my old company too. They were hiring all of their friends and I'm sure they were getting some referral bonus too.

Random thoughts of corporate work after 2 weeks at this new job... - Everyone is playing a role or has a mask on; Come in, be friendly and outgoing... that's what people love - Corporate politics exists everywhere lol -- people always struggling for power, money, etc. - Too many are concerned about promotions; I want to tell them, that more money won't make them happy - IT always sucks, anywhere and everywhere. I went to IT twice to swap out my shitty ThinkPad for a MacBook. First time, it went nowhere. Second time, the dude told me to file a ticket. Filed a ticket, it was the wrong "kind." Finally another person helped! And told me to file this other type of ticket. Now it's in the queue. - Bureaucracy is alive and well... 😅

@amrayupon He also did layoffs while I was there, and one person he laid off was hired back on a month later because no one else could do her job (and put her on a team under a different director) 😂😂 it’s really all so hilarious

@amrayupon LOLLLLL no literally the SAME thing happened at my place!! I got a text from an old coworker saying the CTO was sacked 😂 there were rumors he was getting kickbacks from the contractors he was hiring on (and was pressuring my manager into signing the contracts)

@amrayupon Although at my last job, I had a promotion in process, then a new horrible CTO came in, did a whole reorg, and all promotions were thrown out the door. That was my last straw at that company/corporate and I said byeeee and left to start my “creative sabbatical” 😂

@amrayupon I’m still early in my career and a mid level eng, so I find it tough to not get sucked into the politics and BS, while I watch my peers get “ahead” by climbing the ladder, working extra hard, etc

I really don't like the work culture corgi is promoting... and I can't tell if it's purposeful absurdity as a marketing technique, or they're really drinking the toxic sf work culture koolaid

@yongfook im not marketing to the tech world because there are 100% security gaps in it and they would be the ones to exploit it LMAOOO but I'm approaching 2 months since launch and have almost reached 2000 users. all organic marketing! it's just incredibly niche

The reason that nobody is properly marketing their vibe coded apps is because they are not excited about them. There is no joy in promoting something that was built for you by a machine. You need to have some skin in the game.

@henloitsjoyce @allgarbled I'm reading "sent out 80 cold dms to people on this site. about 30 would reply, 15 would be serious" as lack of response providing evidence for inauthenticity in sf also, 5 amazing friends > 50 surface-level friends to host big parties! sounds as much a personal growth journey

relationships in sf are shallow and transactional. my first month in sf, every week i sent out 80 cold dms to people on this site. about 30 would reply, 15 would be serious and give me a time, and i'd meet 5-10 a week. it was so extreme that people joked that i was a spy sent to befriend founders. but i really just wanted to make friends to share food and go on hikes with. after a month i'd met enough people that i finally started getting the super secret partiful invites rather than the public luma ones. then i started hosting my own things and would try to have at least 50 people i know show up every time. unfortunately i still had a life in singapore to maintain, so i had to leave every 6 months for a few months at a time, and everytime i got back i had to reset my social circle because people whom i thought were my friends and came to eat my food and drink my drinks suddenly pretended to forget me bc i'd been away for 3 months. now that i'm back in sf fulltime, i'm much more protective of my time and energy and who i choose to spend it on. in my first month back i was sad that a lot of the people i thought i knew had moved on to high school-esque gatekeepy group chats and house parties. people would invite me to lunches and not show up. but i now have a beautiful small group of friends that i'd absolutely go to bat for, and my weekends have never been more packed with activities that fill my soul. it only took me 2 long years to get here. keep going, you'll find your people eventually.

This is a bit of a hot take but San Francisco is a terrible place to make friends or maintain genuine, authentic friendships. Thoughts?

@henloitsjoyce @allgarbled you had sweet intentions, but also you were cold DMing people! frankly I don't think they owed you a response (not trying to be rude) if you had no past history with them I think everyone needs to find an event to go to regularly - friendships grow out of stuff like that

@pjux I always say, wherever you go, there you are!! Are you a founder/are your circles mostly tech? I moved to SF after college not knowing a SINGLE person in the city, but I've created an incredibly genuine, authentic, and diverse group of friends in the city

@memristor but I def think it's different with the opposite gender. exchanging #'s feels more intimate. since I don't have socials (i dont rlly use x) i usually slip in the fact that I have a bf to make sure we're on the same page if #'s are exchanged lol

the BIGGGGEST turnoff I have when meeting someone new is when we're about to part ways and they ask to add me on insta it immediately makes our encounter feel transactional
