@jasonmauck1 Then come back in and plant your new relay forage/cover mix into the strips with your multipurpose toolbar. Spray/plant/sidedress.

@beamer2020 Also want the form to be bigger once the CC starts growing more aggressively to have a big edge for big edge row yield

Where the corn was…. Is now rye and next years Alley
One could have 3 or 5 72” roller crimpers pushing down rye and planting cover crops while spraying or cultivating the corresponding multiple narrow strips of corn.

@jasonmauck1 That’s what I thought. What I’m suggesting is, instead of just planting the rye in the fall into strips, plant the whole field. Instead of using a dedicated smaller roller to terminate the rye strips, use the planter when you plant the corn.
English

@jasonmauck1 I’m not understanding your timing then. When do the 72” rollers come into play?

So plant covers with a drill on a planter while planting corn? You know what I’m doing here in this experiment. Corn will grow into a 20 month long cover starting with the rye in the previous fall a year before? I’m trying to push corn yields and be able to harvest timely to have the rye more established the next year. ⏱️

@beamer2020 Sure looks nice.
I planted this May 20. Might make 75 bu.
My April 15 corn might go 120-130.

@JeffMurphy10 I’ve wondered how the climate out in your area would alter plans. Here we have until June fifth before we start losing coverage. I won’t plant corn before Mother’s Day. That big mat of cover sure does a good job of holding moisture and keeping soil temps down.
English

@beamer2020 Have to plant late (mid may or later) to let the cover get big. Puts corn at pollination in mid July which always seems to burn up here on our shallow soils.
Also insurance starts dropping after may 15.
English

@JeffMurphy10 Do you feel like planting later into larger cover would increase your corn input cost over standard no till?
English

@Caseyag1 Really struggling with the input costs on corn especially if I try to plant later with a big cover.

@jasonmauck1 How important do you feel it is to push the beans down and remove as much of the standing straw from in between the beans to open up space? Hoping to run our relays next week. Rye instead of wheat, so I have a couple feet between the top of the beans and the rye.

@beamer2020 Are those zrx crimpers on the front t? How do you like them? Weight issues?
