It was said of (I think?) Terry Tao that many of his wins have come through being willing to grind through pages and pages of tedious algebraic simplifications that no one else would have the grit for. x.com/jon_stokes/sta…

"Superhuman levels of patience with a familiarity with a vast technical machinery" really is the sweet spot for problems LLMs can solve with good context engineering. That is a specific but very valuable class of hard problems.

What's the most sophisticated display of verbal tact you've ever seen? People being three steps ahead, brilliant social strategems for the sake of saving others feelings, pro-social emotional mastermind

@vividvoid I'm sorry you endure that. That sounds incredible difficult. My father and I have been caretaking for my mom together, and it would be next to impossible without him

People badly want to believe their love is unconditional, but when faced with the actual ordeal of loving someone at their worst, the real, difficult sacrifices that love demand, they often falter. While I cared for my mom in the wake of my father's death, my partner at the time cheated on me. She was unable to maintain her own stability while me and my family grieved. Shortly thereafter, I watched my siblings slowly abandon my mother as her dementia progressed. First in their hearts, when they realized the woman they knew wasn't coming back. And then in actuality, by carelessness and neglect, doing the bare minimum their egos required to sustain their basic moral narcissism. Eventually, I had to put her in a home - the last thing she wanted - because I couldn't care for her alone. True love is rare. If you find it, cherish it. Let it change your life. Pay the price it demands. Until you do, learn to rely completely on yourself, and don't fully trust any love until it's been tested. That way, broken promises from weak souls will feel like disappointment instead of betrayal. And real love that endures through hardship will genuinely feel like the rare, beautiful gift that it is.

@prasanna_says @made_in_cosmos What has been reliably helpful is improving understanding what other is actually experiencing and trying to communicate and being helpful/supportive of *that*. Sometimes it's a specific memory or request which needs to be handled on that level, but sometimes it's just

this is unironically excellent advice, if your baby is having a bad trip just sing a nonsense song that matches their tone and mood and then resolves into something joyful so that they can follow you there setting up their environment helps too
R.Сам 🦋🐏@Logo_Daedalus

The key to babies is that they are more easily communicated with if you conceive of yourself as a shaman guiding someone on a lot of psychedelics— you can just hum a tune/mantra at them & their internal discord becomes overrides by the melody.

Why are people willing to die for ideologies? Well, everyone has to die anyway, so people would like for it to matter. An ideology is a repeated pattern of telling people how they matter.

anyone know about stimulant meds causing seeming heart pain but with nothing showing up on an ekg and normal bloodwork? seems to be a common complaint that people just learn to ignore

@gptbrooke @forgingtowards I trialled the litter robot 4 for a couple weeks and returned it; our cat absolutely hated having their regular litter box removed. But the return process was hassle-free, it might be a worthwhile experiment

@algekalipso I've recommended it to another family as well. Not sure if they took it, but they seemed intrigued. Thank you again for spreading the word!

@bear_3ma Thank you Yes, we argue that taking it daily long term as a preventative is the most effective use (less so than for treating an already present stone, though that helps too).
