@frenbilt The Great Recession was triggered by $5 / gallon mid grade gas in 2008. And that was in 2008 prices (equivalent of $10 / gallon now). It has fluctuated massive for many years, especially w/ regard to inflation. $4 is not bad. But it could go to $6 real quickly.

@A_V_West @saveusculture Yeah kind of shady. I had a copy of the last “offline working” CS suite, but eventually it became impossible to run, even in VMs with hacks. Fine if they don’t want to support it forever, but I think they purposefully build in crippleware now so you’re forced to subscribe.

@saveusculture Adobe does the same thing, arguably worse. That's why they shut down my lifetime license of CS3. They charged for a lifetime license, but they decided they want monthly revenue also.

@DiggingInTheDi1 @WeTheBrandon @HistoryLegends_ I think thy know that if they keep the oil from flowing to the rest of the world (Japan, EU, SE Asia, etc) then the rest of the world won’t care when Trump just starts carpet bombing their cities à la WW2, which would be justified if Iran goes after civilian water & power plants.

@bears_43 @WeTheBrandon @HistoryLegends_ I don't think there's any card the US could play at this point that would open up the Strait There are many Iran could play to secure more power if they crush Israel on the ground

I don't believe that these negotiation claims are serious. Trump needs to buy time to soothe the markets and for the Marines to get into place. The target list for possible landings: 1. Kharg Island 2. Qeshm Island 3. Konarak I'd eye #3. h/t YouTuber @HistoryLegends_

@DiggingInTheDi1 @WeTheBrandon @HistoryLegends_ This would be absolutely pointless (though makes sense if you believe he's doing the bidding of Israel). Helping IDF deal with Lebanon does not open Hormuz, it does not deal with Iran's nukes or ballistic missiles, etc.

@WeTheBrandon @HistoryLegends_ I think there's a small but non-zero chance he diverts over to Lebanon to assist Israeli ground forces instead Marines with limited supplies and A-10's for backup don't make sense against a Kharg invasion

@ARCAngela0519 Hate to say it, but in one way it's better that you know he's gone instead of the cat going missing, where you wonder for months or even years whether he's still out there, lost, cold, suffering (or just found a new territory / family as male cats often do).

My cat died today. Suddenly. Very traumatically. I can’t have kids, and he was literally my everything. He followed me everywhere, really. I can’t believe he just won’t be here to do our routine in the morning, or any other morning. I thought we had so much more time. 💔

@RobDaMugg @o_lalonde @kalomaze I would not say that 10 was great. It just seems that way because 11 is so bad, but it's still full of junk like Cortana, Xbox, ads, forced online sign-in (latest builds), confusing settings spread out in a dozen places, etc. Win 8 SP1 was the last coherent and fast OS MS had.

@omnibusproplan @fjzeit @crimsonavenger Did they tinnitus cause you psychological problems at first and have you just learned to tune it out (both literally and psychologically) now? I now go days without even remembering it, but first few years were rough.

@fjzeit @crimsonavenger I have 24/7 tinnitus (8 years ) and even playing my acoustic was fucking up my bad ear earlier. Gives it dead ear And this weird metallic clang , like keys rattling. I feel I'm gonna lose it over this fact.

Whats the age when you just give up? I’m 58 this year and don’t feel like giving up yet. I still wear the vans and listen to punk and metal and enjoy a drink. Don’t think I’m embarrassing myself to be honest.

@fjzeit @crimsonavenger I'm 40s and been dealing with this and nasty tinnitus for a long time. You can actually get "prescription-level" hearing aid with a pair of Airpod Pros for $200. If your hearing is getting that bad, take a look.

@crimsonavenger It's not the age, it's the responsibilities remaining. Got a mortgage and 2 kids in college? I imagine your brain will pump the necessary dopamine to keep you going. Got a cat and $5M in Vanguard mutual funds? It's hard to continue to play the game when you don't have to.

@snwy_me @MyPayIndia @kalomaze You wouldn't be able to run 8 well because all the browsers will demand some security APIs that just don't work in 8, and you won't even get Chrome to work.

@o_lalonde @kalomaze 7 is way better than XP. Still all the good thinks like fast UI, no AI Cortana garbage or ads or Xbox or Microsoft store or MS account. Plus added way better driver model to avoid blue screens which still occurred not rarely on XP and 2k.

@kalomaze Win 8 actually became pretty good after they abandoned all the tablet junk in later SPs. Honestly Win 8 SPx is probably peak windows OS. All the stability of 7 with just enough tech upgrades to be slightly better. They fixed this heap of trash, MS could fix Win 11 too.

@A_British_Cause @RealJarTaylor Honestly, I'd rather have Powaton (or whatever Algonquin tribes still exist) membership than not have it in 2026. Most get tribal cash, land, etc plus all the benefits of DEI. All else equal, a descendent of the Powatons "should" have a much easier time than a generic American.

On this day, 406 years ago, the Powhatan Indians, who had been working peacefully with the Jamestown settlers, came among them as usual, but slaughtered every man, woman, and child they could. Death toll: 347, a quarter of the English population. I suspect not one American in 500 knows about the Massacre of 1622.

Shower thought. In Top Gun: Maverick, if they knew where all the SAM emplacements were, why didn't they Tomahawk or HARM missile all of them along the teams' ingress and egress corridors?

@lakeckin @themoviedadsc I'd be afraid of the liability. Driving a bus (full of school kids) probably has all sorts of drug / alcohol restrictions, and I'd hate to be sitting in court for 2 years after getting in a fender bender and my alcohol purchases or weed use a month before take center stage.

@bears_43 @themoviedadsc Sounds like a plan. “Driving a bus” is what my dad is doing. He loves it but doesn’t necessarily need it. Whatever that type of work is to me sounds great.
