מנין השטות הזו "קו הגנה טבעי" נובעת? אני אכנה זאת תסמין "ישור העוגה". לאנשים שמסתכלים על המפה, הליטני בהחלט יוצר קו ישר ג"ג מאוד הגיוני יחסית ומחבר את קצה ישראל באמצבע הגליל (באזור מטולה דיר-מימס מה שמכונה ברך הליטאני) עד לחוף הים בשפך הקאסמיה (כן, איפה שהפציצו גשר). אז אנשים אומרים לעצמם, היי...אם רק נגיע לליטני הכל יסתדר ויהיה "קו גבול ברור טבעי". רק מה? יש המון קווים אחרים שאפשר לעבוד עליהם בשיטת יישור העוגה (לכו לנהר הדאמור, זה קו טבעי!!). שכן כמו בעוגה המפתה במקרר תמיד יש פיתוי לקחת עוד נתח קטן או גדול יותר כדי שהועגה תהיה "מסודרת".... אבל אז מגלים שבסוג הלחימה בלבנון, זו אליה צה"ל נדרש, איך בהכרח משמעות ללשבת *על* הליטני. צה"ל לא אמור לחסום אוגדות מתמרנות שיצטרכו לבצע קרב מעבר, אלא להתמודד עם חוליות מחבלים, אם בכלל יטרחו לחדור, עם הנחות מטענים על צירי הלוגיסטיקה המתארכים ועם ירי נ"ט מרחוק. לסיכום, הנה סיפור. לפני הרבה שנים, שמהן חלפו כבר הרבה מים בליטאני, שרתתי כקצין צעיר ופוחז בגזרה בה היה מוצב "רותם". מוצב בקצה מצוק שלוחת ראס-ביידה. שליטה טופוגרפית על כל בקעת אל מאנצורי בואכה צור.
