My team went to this awful, awful sad incident. They were with Archie, they saw & felt the raw emotion with the family, themselves, ambulance and the A&E heroes… I went to the arrest of Humphreys who I hope he thinks about the completely unnecessary and evil things of what he did everyday… Rest in peace little man. @bedspolice @LandDHospital @EastEnglandAmb

Spoke on @LBC about whether off duty police officers should be armed with Taser following the Huntingdon train incident last night. We need our Home Office to increase funding to allow our current ON DUTY officers to be able to carry! Carrying off duty is a complete non starter. @bedspolice @axon_us

@biggerbil78 @LBC Ah Thankyou Steve… our frontline patrol officers are the least experienced, young in age (mainly) and service and yet the worst equipped in my view…. it’s a subject I feel passionate about. It’s about keeping them and the public safe. ☺️

@bedspolfeddsec @LBC Off duty cops can’t even carry their baton. Besides, why would they. No PPE. No radio. Inbound ARV wouldn’t know who they are and would need to neutralise them, legally and possibly without warning. Daft idea. Guessing you drive a keyboard not a response car.

𝗘𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 for the BT Operator, Police Call Handler, Control Room Inspector, and Radio Dispatcher to turn chaos into clarity and send help racing towards danger. 𝗘𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 to activate well-rehearsed plans with Ambulance, Fire, and partner agencies working tirelessly behind the scenes. 𝗘𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 to brief Firearms Officers on what they were running into and what they might have to face. 𝗘𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 for @CambsCops and the @BTP Huntingdon coordinate a seamless response. 𝗘𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 for a train driver to contact Network Rail and divert the service onto a slower line so it could stop safely at a station. 𝗘𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗺𝗶𝗻𝘂𝘁𝗲𝘀 for ordinary passengers to do extraordinary things, standing up to the attackers and likely preventing even greater harm. Time is precious. Sometimes it’s incredible what can be achieved in the shortest amount of it. Stay safe out there and look out for each other 💙

@bedspolfeddsec @LBC Did you get permission from the CEO to speak? We know he has pre cons for suspending fed reps once they do media interviews.

@apoliticaleye @LBC There is yes and we do… this was asking for all off duty officers to be equipped with Taser. My point is we need to equip those on duty properly first and foremost.

@bedspolfeddsec @LBC is there not a statutory requirement for officers to act off duty and such failure could result in a Nonfeasance allegation. A requirement I feel is grossly unfair to officers. If the system seeks to pursue it then it must equip off duty cops the ability to act

@SevenSixTwoNATO @LBC My experience is that all officers don’t want that and the need is not there for that at present. Taser is the way forward for the UK in my view… and bearing in mind not all want to carry that..!
