In 2023, I attended my first Aurat March and spoke to Sheema Kermani, who said Sindh govt was relatively more open to granting NOCs than Islamabad, where activists faced crackdowns. Three years later, I asked what changed—why even Sindh now appears increasingly hostile.

The state is now so threatened by the BYC that it inserted a condition into Aurat March’s NOC specifically barring its participation, even falsely branding it a “proscribed organisation.” BYC has never been proscribed. Its real crime is that it refused to stay silent while Baloch families searched for their disappeared, counted their dead, and demanded rights the state only remembers on paper. Seventeen years ago, the PPP government disappeared my father. A year ago, it arrested me. Days ago, it tried to arrest my mother. Now it openly threatens to arrest me again for attending a women’s march. That alone tells you everything about what this state has become. At a march meant to speak about dignity, freedom, and justice, every woman is welcome except the Baloch woman. Every grief is legitimate except hers. Every body is political except the Baloch body, which must remain silent, invisible, and afraid. So what exactly is the message here? That the moment a Baloch woman speaks about enforced disappearances, prisons, or state violence, she stops deserving solidarity? Stops deserving protection? Stops even qualifying as a woman in the eyes of the state? These restrictions were never about “security.” They are about isolation. About teaching people that standing beside Baloch women carries consequences. About turning solidarity itself into something punishable. A state that trembles at the sight of grieving daughters and protesting mothers is not powerful. It is deeply, violently afraid. And nothing exposes that fear more clearly than a government treating unarmed women at Aurat March like a national threat.

Adding to this, @FariehaAziz said that, in her view, the 26th and 27th amendments amount to an abrogation of the Constitution, with justifications from collaborators reflecting how the status quo is sustained by those who benefit from not speaking out. #ReleaseImaanAndHadi

چند دن پہلے جب کراچی پریس کلب کے سامنے میری والدہ کو پولیس نے پکڑ کر گرفتار کرنے کی کوشش کی، اور جب پوچھا گیا کہ ان کا جرم کیا ہے، تو پولیس نے جواب دیا: “ان کا جرم یہ ہے کہ یہ سمی دین کی والدہ ہیں۔ ان کا جرم یہ ہے کہ یہ اپنی بیٹی کو خاموش کرانا نہیں جانتیں۔” بلوچ مائیں ہیں، مجرم تو ہونگے، ان ماؤں کو تو سزا ملنی چاہیے۔ کیونکہ انہوں نے ایسی بیٹیاں پیدا کی ہیں، جو بولتی ہیں، سوال کرتی ہیں، آواز اٹھاتی ہیں، جو خاموش رہنا نہیں جانتیں۔ ان کا جرم یہ ہے کہ انہوں نے اپنی بیٹیوں کو خوف کے حوالے نہیں کیا، انہوں نے اپنی بیٹیوں کو سماج کے طعنوں، ریاست کے تشدد، جیل، گولی اور جبری گمشدگی کے خوف سے دبانا نہیں سکھایا، بلکہ انہوں نے اپنی بیٹیوں کے ساتھ کھڑے ہونا سیکھا۔ ان ماؤں کو واقعی سزا ملنی چاہیے، اور سخت سزا ملنی چاہیے، کیونکہ نہ یہ خود ڈرتی ہیں، نہ اپنی بیٹیوں کو ڈراتی ہیں۔ ریاست ان ماؤں کو جیل کی دھمکی دیتی ہے، ہراساں کرتی ہے، دن رات جبر مسلط کرتی ہے، مگر پھر بھی یہ کمزور نہیں ہوتیں، بلکہ ہر ظلم کے بعد اپنی بیٹیوں کی ہمت بن کر مزید مضبوط کھڑی ہوجاتی ہیں۔ ماہل جیسی مائیں، فوزیہ جیسی بیٹیوں کے ساتھ قید کاٹتی ہیں۔ ماہرنگ کی والدہ جب جیل میں اس سے ملاقات کرنے جاتی ہیں تو اسے کہتی ہیں: “اگر یہ راستہ چنا ہے تو اب اس پر ڈٹ جانا، کمزور نہ ہونا۔” بیبو کی والدہ، جو خود وہیل چیئر پر ہیں، جب بیبو سے ملنے جاتی ہیں تو اپنے درد بھول کر صرف اپنی بیٹی کو حوصلہ دیتی ہیں۔ اور اب یہ مائیں صرف بیٹوں کے لیے سڑکوں پر احتجاج نہیں کرتیں، بلکہ اپنی گمشدہ بیٹیوں کی تصویریں بھی ہاتھوں میں اٹھائے کھڑی ہوتی ہیں، کبھی سڑکوں پر، جیلوں کے باہر، عدالتوں کے سامنے، ہر ظلم کے مقابل کھڑی رہتی ہیں۔ ریاست ان ماؤں کو گرفتاری اور جیل سے ڈراتی ہے، یہ وہ مائیں ہیں جنہیں اس ریاست نے اتنے دکھ، اتنی اذیتیں اور تکلیفیں دیے ہیں کہ اب یہ خوف سے آگے نکل چکی ہیں۔ “ان کا جرم یہ ہے کہ یہ سمی دین کی والدہ ہیں” یہ جملہ صرف میری ماں کے لیے نہیں بولا گیا تھا، یہ ہر اُس بلوچ ماں کے خلاف فردِ جرم تھا، جس کی بیٹی جبر کے سائے تلے بھی خاموش رہنے سے انکار کرتی ہے۔ مگر اس کے جواب میں میری ماں نے خوف نہیں دکھایا۔ وہ مسکرائیں، اور کہا: “میں اپنی کے لیے دس بار جیل جانے کو تیار ہوں، اور تم مجھے گرفتار کرنے سے ڈراتے ہو؟” اور بلوچ مائیں اب کتنی پختہ، کتنی مضبوط ہوچکی ہیں کہ اب وہ اپنی بیٹیوں کی جگہ جیل جانے سے بھی پیچھے نہیں ہٹتیں۔ ہمیں ناز ہیکہ ہماری مائیں اب انقلابی مائیں بن چکی ہیں۔ آج ماؤں کا عالمی دن، دنیا کی تمام مظلوم ماؤں سمیت بلوچ ماں کے نام، جو عورت ہو کر، اذیت و جبر کے سائے میں رہنے کے باوجود بھی ناقابلِ شکست رہیں۔ لمہ نازجان، زرینہ، ماہل، شیریں مزاری، ان تمام بلوچ ماؤں کے نام، جو اب اپنی بیٹیوں کی کمزوری نہیں بلکہ طاقت بن چکی ہیں، جو اپنی بیٹیوں کو خاموشی نہیں، مزاحمت سکھاتی ہیں، جو اپنی بیٹیوں کے بولنے کی قیمت پر جیل جانے کے لیے بھی تیار ہیں۔ لمہ حوری، لمہ زرگل، لمہ بس خاتوں اور ان ماؤں کے نام جنہوں نے اپنے بیٹوں کی گمشدگی میں دن رات اذیت اور تکلیف سے گزار رہے ہیں، سالہا سال سڑکوں پر اپنے بچوں کی تصویریں اٹھا کر احتجاج کررہی ہیں، جن کے دروازوں پر کبھی لاپتہ بیٹے واپس نہیں آئے، صرف خبریں آئیں… کبھی مسخ شدہ لاشوں کی، کبھی اجتماعی قبروں کی۔ مگر نہ کبھی ڈریں، نہ کبھی تھکیں۔۔ ان ماؤں کے نام، جو اب صرف مائیں نہیں رہیں، بلکہ مزاحمتی اور انقلابی مائیں بن چکی ہیں۔ #10May #MothersDay #InternationalMothersDay
