With reference to the shutdown call on NH-2 by COTU, Manipur Police clarifies the facts regarding the incident of 08/04/2026. On 08-04-2026 at about 09:30 PM, a Chevrolet Cruze (WB-06C-7444) with 3 occupants and an Alto car with 1 occupant which came from Kangpokpi side and Sekmai side respectively arrived at Kanglatongbi Bridge for exchanging their vehicles and for doing test drive. During this process, the Cruze met with a minor accident after falling into a nullah. Police personnel from the security naka at Kanglatongbi Hindi High School near Shantipur immediately rushed to the spot and attended to them. Meanwhile, the accompanying Alto car approached at high speed, ignored repeated signals to stop, and nearly hit security personnel on duty. On noticing police presence, the occupants attempted to flee towards Kangpokpi. In view of the imminent risk and suspicious behaviour, security personnel fired controlled rounds aimed at the tyres to stop the vehicle. However, the vehicle did not halt and continued fleeing. Subsequently, it was learnt that the driver of the Alto car, Lenkhogin Tuboi, sustained bullet injuries and was taken to Mission Hospital, Kangpokpi for treatment. The driver of the Cruze, Janggingen Khongsai (21), was detained, handed over to G. Saparmeina Police Station, and later released after observing due formalities. An FIR has been registered and investigation is ongoing. Manipur Police reiterates that the action taken was in response to suspicious behaviour, attempted evasion, and threat to personnel on duty. The public is advised not to be misled by unverified information.
