One thing I've learned is that an industry can be experiencing long-term secular growth, while still having cyclicality within that secular growth, and within that cyclicality, you can still have seasonality - which is the triple whammy that makes forecasting hard. In some ways, (long-term secular growth + cyclicality + seasonality) can be even more challenging to navigate than simple long-term secular decline because the latter is easier to project and plan for than the former.
