everyone knows AI will change healthcare. that’s not interesting. what’s interesting is how it happens and whether it happens in a way that actually works for india
the default path is familiar: proprietary systems, expensive licenses, solutions built for western markets and awkwardly adapted. we’ve seen that movie before
but there’s another path - one india already has form in. aadhaar solved identity. upi solved payments. both were open and both scaled to a billion people
what if healthcare ai followed the same pattern? open-source foundations. locally relevant. built for india’s clinical and cultural realities. and the exciting bit is, these aren’t just hypotheticals anymore
@behtarfound & the healthtech collective are hosting a small gathering with:
- dr vijay raaghavan (fractal analytics)
- ekta tibrewal (peercapital)
- amit kumar dey (doctorsai)
- aravind gaddala (augnito)
to discuss all this + more!
expect bold ideas + raw conversations. if you're building or funding healthcare ai in india, hope to see you there

incredibly excited to share @behtarfound has received approval to commence our first pilot study assessing the effectiveness of AI patients simulations in training postgraduate psychology students for real world clinical practice
this research addresses a critical gap between theoretical coursework and clinical application by investigating how digital “cadavers” can provide standardized, replicable training experiences that expose students to diverse clinical presentations while providing cost-effective, scalable resources to enhance clinical competency + improve therapeutic outcomes
this marks a first step toward building AI-enabled training infrastructures that can strengthen clinical practice and change how medical education is delivered

the right benchmark for llms isn’t perfect doctors, it’s the care patients actually receive today
excited to share a piece of my heart @behtarfound with the world!
at behtar, we’re building open-source AI-enabled healthcare where clinical realities meet our cultural contexts. while ABDM gives us the infrastructure to scale, the responsibility to build for and with bharat lies with us
our story began with sukoon, where we built bharat’s first open-source mental health chatbot that reached over 5000 people (from IIT students to being deployed through VOPA across maharashtra) and engaged 100+ volunteers. grateful to carry on our work under behtar with the same team of some of the most passionate & imaginative folks i’ve met that make work feel like play and teach & inspire me every day!
check out our website (link in comments) to learn more about current projects + reach out if you’d like to work / collaborate with us
we’re just getting started.

From saving students in crisis to making therapists better, that’s @behtarfound
AI won’t solve mental health just because it’s AI.
It has to solve for India’s realities.
That’s why we started Project Sukoon , to close the huge demand-supply gap in care.
Built for a multilingual India. Built to fight student stress and anxiety head-on.
Now, with @behtarfound, we’re going further.
Not just helping those in crisis, but giving therapists a tool to become better therapists.
Open. Accessible. Human.
Because mental health solutions should heal, beyond the hype.
