@kingofaerie never let the canonical continuation of a family stop you from making everyone queer. their mother can simply have another baby at 50 🙂‍↕️🙂‍↕️

i love that tlh has multiple queer characters. but that fact that cc created multiple babies who pretty much exist in the story only to ensure that family names live on to tmi/tda/twp is kind of funny 💀

i think booktwt needs to concede to the fact that reading and listening are innately different acts that hone different skills, without thinking that it automatically means that audiobooks are “bad” and thus, feel that they’ve just been personally attacked

@sossawow @Cybren @ringedpheal whereas audiobooks are a individualistic approach, and the influence of the reader is minimal. They exist in a different place & time, you have no relationship to them and their presence is expected to blend into the background. It’s a weird middle ground that didn’t exist before

@sossawow @Cybren @ringedpheal yeah, and in the past oral storytelling was inherently communal as it needs two people (the reader/storyteller & listener) & that experience would be inherent to your understanding. You would never describe your mom telling you the story of Snow White as having read it etc

audiobooks are reading but imo “oh so is braille reading?” is a silly argument to try and catch people with bc … yes? braille is a writing system, ppl reading braille are perceiving written text and understanding it, which is what ppl mean when they say reading =\= listening

@ShineLuminus The way in canon Helen & Mark also get dropped off on the doorstep when Julian’s a baby… imagine being pregnant with your first child & 12 months later you’re a mother to 5 under 6 😭😭 AND you proceed to have 3 more, Andrew get away from her omg

@knjherondaisy The way she probably came up with Cortana immediately after this & ran to introduce it in CP2 before it went to print because she knew she was cooking

@fayrchilds tbf if the twins are nine months younger than him I doubt they would have had to prove themselves the way same… like you can’t argue your 13 year old siblings are children & need to be cared for by you when you are also 13 lol

@sossawow @Cybren @ringedpheal yeah this whole issue is just two different definitions being valued over another 😭 I think our language just isn’t built to accommodate the modern experience of listening to an audiobook lol

@Cybren @bellsnova @ringedpheal It seems like people are talking past each other with the word read. Audiobooks aren’t literally reading, visually comprehending written words. But if someone listened to an audiobook I’m not scold them if they say they read it in the colloquial sense

@Cybren @ringedpheal important definition of the word. You wouldn’t conflate the two in a classroom, because being able to understand spoken & written language are two different (and equally important) skills. This is what people mean when they say audiobooks aren’t reading, but I think you know that

@Cybren @ringedpheal Which is true, but as you said it’s context specific. The other definition (of many) is the interpretation of written language, which audiobooks do not meet; they are being read aloud by someone else. Which might not seem relevant to you & your life but it is still a valid &

just because you’re a slower reader does not make you superior to others this is so 😭😭

@howlsponyo I feel like if you're speeding through books, like faster than a book a month, you're not reading anything super challenging. Try reading something for teens published before 1950. You should be stopping every few pages to look up words unless that genre is your jam.
