@shanselman Sky was without a doubt my favourite voice. The others don’t sound as pleasant or comforting to me. I agree it definitely sounds like Scarket Johansson but I really hope they can prove they used a different voice actress who has a very similar voice and can reinstate in soon.

@benbtg To emphasize my own point: VS Code cannot open, run, or debug any of my currently shipping apps. Some of which are .NET 7. Some of which I’ve been writing for 13 years. Saying this isn’t harmful is cynical or callus. Take your pick.

If I could give one piece of advice to myself in my 20s, it would have been to develop my own language and compiler so I wouldn’t be at the mercy of megacorps. Don’t use other people’s products. They’ll only hurt you in the end. devblogs.microsoft.com/visualstudio/v…

@praeclarum Ok that’s a fair point. I would expect/hope that issue and others like it would be resolved long before VS4Mac is no longer available to you.

@benbtg I’ll help you by removing this from the hypothetical and assuming the role of user. I sell 5 .NET apps on the app stare. VS4Mac can compile and debug all of them. VS Code cannot compile or debug any of them. This isn’t just a tool, this is the only way we can build these apps.

@praeclarum At risk of accuse of being biased. I disagree with you on this. I think it’s an over reaction to say it “harms” users. Users still have 2 perfectly valid options open to them and those 2 options will only improve with the extra focus they now how. It benefits everyone.

@benbtg Yes this is a good decision for Microsoft. It’s smart for Microsoft. I’m not arguing that. The part you’re skipping over is the harm they’re causing their customers. This decision is harming people. Microsoft always makes the decision that benefits them not their users.
