To every young person out there holding a certificate and searching for an opportunity, do not relent in your pursuit.
You have probably come to realize that the journey to employment is not always straightforward. Sometimes, the longer it takes, the more hopelessness creeps in, and many are tempted to step aside from what has been a lifelong dream. Do not. Global economies may be going through upheavals, opportunities may be scarce, and competition may be high, but your journey is not over.
Be willing to stretch your boundaries. Look beyond your discipline, explore sectors you may never have considered, and search beyond the geography you know. Seek mentorship and coaching, and approach your job search strategically and methodically. Even in moments of desperation, do not apply for everything and anything. Take time to understand what an employer wants and do your very best in every application, ensuring that your skills and aspirations align with the opportunity before you.
Your day is nigh. Keep learning, keep improving, and keep believing in yourself. Every setback is part of the preparation for the opportunity that is meant for you. What may seem like a delay today could well be positioning you for something greater tomorrow. Above all, keep trusting the Almighty, for perseverance, faith, and hard work have a way of opening doors at the right time and in the right place. BC
