An excerpt from a BBC documentary on the 'secret history of the Troubles'. In 1990, the IRA adopted the tactic of using people as "human bombs". This meant strapping a person to the seat of a vehicle that contained a large bomb, then forcing them to drive the bomb to an army checkpoint. The IRA terrorists, watching from a distance, would then detonate the bomb by remote control. Bishop Edward Daly, the Catholic Bishop of Derry at the time, called it the work of Satan. The person doing the work of Satan, as Bishop Daly put it, was Martin McGuinness and his underlings in the IRA. As I have stated previously, McGuinness was the OC of the IRA's so-called Northern Command at the time. The "human bomb" attacks would not have occurred without McGuinness' authorisation. From the mid 1980s, there was centralisation of control in Northern Command and individual IRA units had to seek authorisation for attacks. Prior to that, IRA units had a degree of autonomy. So, as with the Enniskillen blomb atrocity, there can be no excuses about "rogue units". In public of course, McGuinness lived a lie, pretending that he was not responsible for IRA terrorism. McGuinness claimed he left the IRA in 1974. The truth of course was that he never left the IRA. The truth is that he was responsible for mass murder.
