@wpmark Any white space around ob_get_clean() doing something odd? Try wrapping with trim() ? 🤷‍♂️

Really odd issue today which is driving me crazy. I have a shortcode (link below and read the comment) which is producing empty p tags in the output. Cannot for the life of my work out why. Any ideas anyone? gist.github.com/wpmark/17eeeec…

@pixelyzed I maintain it in terms of checking compatibility with new WP versions and if anyone flags a specific issue, I try to resolve it where possible. So if it works for your needs ok as is it should be ok.

@keithdevon Work with transition delay too, so really useful if you need a different delay when toggling an on/off state.

Did you know? In CSS, You can change transitions speed between hover 'on' and 'off'. It's really easy too!

@wpmark Nice implementation to use with php templates rather than REST data. Could be adapted for infinite/auto loading using IntersectionObserver to detect when more/loading icon reaches bottom of screen. 👌🏻

My current method for implementing "load more" posts buttons on #WordPress archive pages (rather than pagination), is to use a custom REST endpoint. Works really well as is super easy to use. Video coming soon on how.

Raw sewage floating down The River Avon where people swim, paddle board and kayak. This is an area of outstanding natural beauty where we have spotted woodpeckers, falcons and beavers. It’s being destroyed by #Sewage #BBCBreakfast

@wpmark I would do the same. I think of it in terms of component type and context: “component-context.php” so that it’s easily extensible for different variations of component.

Working with #WordPress themes I make extensive use of get_template_part(). One thing that always ends up in the debate in the naming to use for your parts. I would always go with navigation-category.php although some would argue the other way around. What do you think?

@ODEONHelp We’ve just booked some cinema ticket for this afternoon but would like to change to a different film. Appears to be no way to contact customer services at short notice, just a support form. Can you help?

Does anybody actually ever click "allow" on these popup messages in your browser? Personally I think they are pointless and I wonder how many actually allow notifications etc.

There are literally hundreds of #WordPress function for developers to use in their coding. As such there are quite a few that you may not have hard about or used. Here is a thread of some of the more obscure ones that I often use and find helpful.

@wpmark My other favourite… wp_list_filter()

wp_list_pluck() Pluck all the items out of an array or object that have a specific value and return them in a new array. Hard to explain this one but when you read the docs it becomes really useful! developer.wordpress.org/reference/func…

@benhuson I wonder if a div or span would be more semantic than a paragraph? We really need a pre- or super-heading element!

#a11y question: What should the markup be for these two elements? The white on red text is the title of the page.

@keithdevon Possibly. I consider div and span generic rather than semantic so could make sense in this instance when lacking a suitable semantic tag.

If you build #WordPress plugins, what was the very first plugin that you built? Presumably it helped you learn plugin development. Mine was a plugin that output the name of the hooks available in the WordPress admin in red text. It was useful but quickly became dated.
