@BeckTheKid35 The story is that NBA teams (especially in the West) are regularly playing without one or more of their stars. Can these teams turn it on in the playoffs without continuity? Are older and injury prone stars fatal flaws to win a championship? Kings were built to play every day.

@zachcoelius The tech scene is about regeneration with constant infusions of new talent, death of behemoths and emergence of unicorns. So my question isn't about who left and won't come back, but if the bay is able to regenerate with a new talent and energy? If not, why not?

The new steady state for the bay area tech scene is down ~30% and slowly shrinking or barely staying even. There will be no rapid bounce back. Virtually no one I know is clambering to return. Still the biggest tech hub in the world, but the hyper growth years are over.

@mmasnick Anything can be outrageous. Remember when "social" was a new "layer"? Perhaps we recognize "outrage" is a new layer across all topics, platforms, and product experiences.

@benilfeld Nice in theory, but I think this still implies journalists sharing in responsibility: by understanding the biz they're in, where they sit in the dynamic and choosing their platforms/employers carefully. If journalists/creators abdicate, they'll be taken advantage of.

It's 2022. Should journalists share any responsibility for the financial health and sustainability of the news organizations they work for?
