Wild that this feature just doesn't work, and there is no way to report a bug. You'd think Cloudflare would want to know when something was broken, but I'm directed to a "Community" where the post got zero replies; and asking here was also ignored. Does not inspire confidence.

Today’s puzzle. White has checkmate in *two* moves. What’s the first move? No computers allowed. Though, this even confused the computer at first…

@fulligin @kevintwohy I’m probably totally missing something (I’m not a chess person and literally had to look up the notation just now) but if Qb2, then couldn’t black do Rc2… then white wouldn’t be able to castle because it would put the king in check?

All of Panic is getting together this week in PDX for a jamboree! So I have a favor to ask: Do you have any good memories of Panic, how we’ve helped you, or any thoughts about our weird company? If so, please reply, when you can! I’d love to share with everyone. Thank you 🙏

@jessicahische This might be a stupid question, but do you have a passport? (I always think of those as only for international travel, but should work in the US?)

Not that any of the constant validation slot machine of social media is good or healthy, but at least we knew what to expect here. You can’t just randomly decide to alter the currency of peoples’ contributions to an established community. Unless you don’t understand community!

I'd love to know the scammy way Twitter's determining these awful view counts on tweets. Musk publicly said he was going to make views visible after complaints of decreased engagement, to show that Twitter is more active than it seems (it isn't), and these are COMICALLY inflated.

@sendwithloops Information on pricing would be really helpful to know if this might be a good fit for a client of mine. I see nothing about pricing on your website?!?

Touchscreens in automobiles were found to be "onerous and distracting" in 1986, and still are today. It's design malpractice that some vehicles put frequently used controls (like climate) in a touchscreen instead of a physical control.
Massimo@Rainmaker1973

Buick created the first car touchscreen on its model Riviera in 1986. The technology was dropped because customers found it onerous and distracting [read more: buff.ly/3iXRoa4] [full video by doktorebuick: buff.ly/3tv2lbv]

I've been digging this iOS 16 feature of randomly shuffling photos on my lock screen – thanks for the tip @cabel! I wish there was an optional way to show the location & date the photo was taken. And maybe the caption, if there is one? And a way to go to the photo in my library?
Cabel Sasser@cabel

I set my iOS 17 lock screen to randomly Shuffle a new "Nature" photo from my photo library, every hour… and it has been an absolute delight. It is *always* fun to pick up my phone and remember where I've been.

Here's me on Mastadon: @brad_frost" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">mastodon.social/@brad_frost I'm dealing with more life bullshit so don't have the headspace to give a half a thought about Twitter, Mastadon, blah blah, but maybe one day I'll be able to get in there. And this is a useful tool for finding people you follow on Twitter and importing them to Mastadon: pruvisto.org/debirdify/ (Only works if they have their Mastadon username in their Twitter, so do that if you're on Mastadon.)

If you're Mastadon-curious, this is a good thread explaining the concept of Mastadon servers, which was the most confusing part to me (TL;DR: it doesn't matter much – you can follow anyone, and move servers later): twitter.com/garius/status/…
John Bull@garius

Right. As a heavy tweeter/content creator who is now maintaining BOTH a Twitter and Mastodon presence, here is a short guide to what I have set up, how to do it and lessons I've learned, for others. TLDR: It's been WAY less hassle than I expected thanks to tips from followers /1

I don't post much, but I get a lot from those I follow. I'll miss this place once it's destruction is complete, which seems inevitable. I'm hoping to re-create as much of this community as I can on Mastadon. If you want to stay connected, I'm at: @benish" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">pdx.social/web/@benish
