It's my 7th time visiting Amazon.
Past strategic discussions fade. People are what I remember.
Great memories with co-workers and our friends from Amazon.
When I’m 70 I won’t remember Simple Modern’s 2025 revenue. I’ll remember the incredible friends I spent time with and the experiences we shared.
Business should be more relational than transactional. Humans are what hold value.
The rest is important in the short term but will eventually fade away.

A close friend is turning 40. I wrote him a letter reflecting on what I have learned over the last few years and thought it was worth sharing an excerpt:
"My experience is that the 40’s are full of unprecedented experiences. You will encounter some of the most satisfying and challenging times of your life.
It is going to be a great decade for you! You have been making wise choices that prioritize your faith, family, and friendships for many years at this point. Over the years ahead you will clearly see the compounding value of these decisions. The best things in life do not come quickly, but they are built over years and decades. You have put in the work in your marriage, as a dad, in your career, and in your character. You have built things that are strong and stable. You are the wise man that has built on the rock. Over the years ahead you will be able to enjoy the many blessings that come from that. Continue to build on these choices. Continue to focus on the pillars of your life that have served you well. Continue to lean into relationships with God and others. You will have moments of deep satisfaction in the years ahead that are unlike anything you have experienced so far because of the work and commitment they are built upon. You have clarity in a world that is deeply confused about where contentment and purpose can be found.
I share all of this because you are also entering a period where you will likely experience more emotional turmoil than you have in the past. My experience, and the experience of many other men, is that the 40’s can be a confusing time that is full of strong emotions. You will need to grapple with aging, the things in life that haven’t gone quite as expected, and wounds from the past. At times it will be very difficult. It is a process that will continue to grow you into the man God created you to be. You will need to rely on Him and your relationships with others more than ever before. But at the end of the tunnel there is an opportunity to gracefully transition into the 2ndhalf of your life. Don’t be afraid to face this challenge head on but know that you cannot do it alone. Lean on the community around you and learn from the men that have gone before you. No man is an island."
