I don't think many people are saying this roster is a downgrade. It's probably roughly the same as last year as a regular-season group. The negativity relates to their ability to compete with OKC and San Antonio in the playoffs with very few resources left to improve with.

My thoughts on Kuminga: is he THE guy or a stopgap to hold them over until they find THE guy? If it's the latter you don't give up your only remaining swap. The former then you do BUT:
If he wants more than $10 mil per year that's fine. If he's THE guy then commit, but that has to hold true for both sides. No two year deal with a player option. Can't give him the ability to walk if LA is giving up money and a swap. Otherwise you wind up in the same spot next summer but with fewer assets to go land the long-term wing.

I thought @rongutterman24 made a great point on our live stream: the Lakers goal this cycle was to add at least one long-term starter for Luka, check that box w/ Kessler. They still need a wing but perhaps that comes with a NTMLE next summer while getting a stopgap for now, see if Thiero/Carr pop, then off they go.
