Practical summary: New project? Enable the compiler on day one, write naive components, done. Existing project? Audit your Rules of React compliance first. Either way: delete useMemo, measure, only add back what you can justify. The era of defensive memoization is ending. 🤞🏽

Run eslint-plugin-react-compiler before assuming you'll get a free perf boost. React is catching up on DX, not pioneering it. And that's totally fine! React's ecosystem is still enormous. But if someone tells you the compiler is revolutionary, maybe temper that a bit.

The React Compiler is stable and it means you can delete most of your useMemo calls. I know, I know. We spent years learning when to use it. Now the compiler just... does it. I'm choosing to feel liberated rather than insulted. 🧵

Verdict: the App Router is finally ready to be the default recommendation again. Thanks @nextjs and @vercel

Worth it? Yes. But check your DB query volume before and after. For teams already in the Next.js ecosystem it's a clean win. For apps that are mostly client-driven (SPAs, dashboards), you probably won't feel the difference much.

Next.js 16 finally fixed the thing that made App Router genuinely painful to work with. "use cache" ... and suddenly the whole mental model clicks.
