Today is the last @SFBART board meeting for 4 departing Directors (incl me). I wanted to leave my colleagues with a final gift. But, what does one give to 8 #SanFrancisco Bay Area elected #Democrat directors? They seem to have everything they need. Given BART exhausts the $ billions in federal and state emergency funds in early 2026, yet expects to face ongoing $350M+ annual operating deficits far beyond, I thought they may need a backup "lifeline", just in case bay area taxpayers say no to increased taxes. So I gave them each this lifeline tool, just in case...

The BART Board of Directors is recruiting a Public-At-Large appointee for the BART Police Citizen Review Board, which works to increase the public's confidence in BART's policing services. To learn more and apply (application opens Nov. 18 and closes Dec. 20), visit bart.gov/news/articles/…

Based on Clipper data, riders have fully returned to transit, they are just taking fewer trips because of remote work. Unique clipper cards used (note the 2024 numbers now match 2019):

Good to see this 8-car ⁦@SFBART⁩ train pretty full on this 8:30 am yellow line. We need folks to get out of their cars and hop on transit again to relieve freeway blues and for the good of our fragile environment. ⁦@BevanDufty

68 years ago, Dalip Singh Saund became the first Asian American to be elected to U.S. Congress. We honor his legacy today, including his successful efforts to grant Indian and Filipino immigrants the right to become U.S. citizens.

We are thrilled! Berkeley voters want smooth, safe streets!
Yes on FF@BerkSafeStreets

🚨 Election Update: Measure FF passed! Berkeley voters just approved Measure FF, a groundbreaking measure will provide more than $250M over 14 years for street repair, repaving, and life-saving safety infrastructure. The measure was placed on the ballot by volunteer signature gatherers who collected thousands of signatures. This is a huge win and demonstrates both broad support for safer streets and the effectiveness of our grassroots organizing. In addition to better maintained, smoother streets, this means we can expect more improvements such as better sidewalks, flashing beacons, raised crosswalks, traffic calming, protected bike lanes, landscaping, and signal prioritization. To learn more about the Measure and how it will improve Berkeley’s streets, visit YesonFF.com! With about two thirds of votes counted, Measure FF has received more than 60% approval. Although more votes have yet to be counted, this incredibly positive result indicates that it’s clear FF has passed! From beginning to end, this campaign was a truly community-driven, grassroots endeavor. Thank you to every volunteer who gathered signatures, canvassed, put up a lawn sign, and talked to family or neighbors about the measure. Our collective voices and actions will lead to real change on Berkeley’s streets to make them safer, more accessible, more sustainable, and smoother — all while avoiding greater maintenance obligations in the future. You did it!

We’re so proud to join students across Berkeley in endorsing YES on FF, NO on EE! Students deserve safer streets. Whether we’re walking, biking, scootering, taking the bus, or driving…we all have to get somewhere, and we gotta get there safely. yesonff.com!!

Sharing my personal endorsements for the November 2024 election in San Francisco. This election cycle, after a year of genocide in Gaza, there needs to be: 1) some measure of accountability & memorialization of the damaging rhetoric + actions that have negatively impacted both the Muslim & Arab communities here in San Francisco. and 2) support for the candidates who are willing to do the work, take hard votes & engage with these neglected communities. nadiarahman.medium.com/november-2024-…

Yes on FF is proudly endorsed by every elected Berkeley Unified School Board Director. That’s because FF would make getting to school safer for Berkeley kids. With four weeks left until Election Day, it’s critical that we continue to contact voters to explain why FF must pass. Volunteer, donate, and request a lawn sign at: YesonFF.com !

@scottmace2 @SFBART You might be right. This job, at this time, is not for everyone. I’m excited though that multiple great candidates have stepped up in other districts.

@we_amol @SFBART Thanks! Increasing safety is a multi pronged approach as you might already know. I’m interested in making sure we use the right resources, including police in most effective way from a security and financial accountability perspective.

@berkeleywali Congratulations & this is a big win for BART & the East Bay! My only regret is that since you’re uncontested you won’t be on the ballot & folks won’t get to vote for you. I’m sure many would have enjoyed that!
