How can The "Irish" rugby team claim to represent Ireland when they don't play the Irish national anthem, Amhrán na bhFiann, at away games. It can't be done. Simple as. A shower of west brit bastards.

@OMG_ITS_NDABA @QuadeCooper I understand what you’re saying but there are plenty of examples where you have to let it go, like a ruck and that is part of the skill of the game. I don’t hate this idea, it is already the case for players in front of the knock on but it could be chaotic. Is it forward??

@bermudacon @QuadeCooper Either way I'm not giving away free possession and possibly a line break because we want to keep the game flowing. The opposition can still lose the lineout because it's contestable. Anywhere where the ball is contestable, CONTEST for the ball until the refs stops play.

I’ve been watching a lot of Rugby lately, and it got me thinking about how we could speed the game up and open it up a bit more. One idea I had, hear me out. To encourage more offloads and reduce the number of rucks, what if when a team knocks the ball on, they’re not allowed to touch it next which currently results in a scrum. If they do, it’s a long arm penalty. That gives the opposition guaranteed first rights to the ball. They can pick it up and play immediately with a backward pass, or if they want to slow it down, it could work similar to an AFL mark and you have 10 seconds to resume play or it’s a turn over again. If you step off the mark, you’re live and can be tackled. The goal is simple, reward teams that want to play fast, create more chaos, and reduce stoppages? Questions - would this ruin our beautiful game and allow less skilled players to play (which is what most people want inclusivity) Would it make it slower? Faster? There’s nothing wrong with our game?

@QuadeCooper I'll be damned if I let the opposition have first rights to anything that's contestable, especially in open play. I'd concede the penalty and slow down the game. A lot of players would. A lot of coaches would tell their players to do so.

@ek_rugby @FogartyJack The person at fault is Underhill who fails to come forward with the line and creates the dog leg in defense. Can’t see Dalys position from the clip but I suspect he assumes that gap is covered and over stretches to cover wide.

@FogartyJack Agree that it's harsh to criticise Daly here. Menoncello is a top 1% athlete in test rugby, with the power to play centre and pace of a winger. Daly could have been positioned a little more to his right, but Menoncello makes it a mismatch regardless.

I know Daly is getting some shit for this, but who else in World Rugby is stopping Menoncello there? I bet he could make the kessel run in 12 parcecs

@Caolan_Scully To me this was a solid days work. Blooded a bunch of fringe players in a meaningful game and all will benefit hugely from it. Took a risk on selection and came away with a bonus point win. Found a new 9. It was a bit of a slog at times but the Welsh defense coach was MOTM!

@LeinsterClub @JoeNaConnacht Based on the team Ireland put out I think this is a good call. It will take time to gel so I expect it to be a closer game than most expect. Wales are still limited but have improved a lot.

How do you see Ireland v Wales going? Be good to get a feel for what people are thinking.

England going the franchise route makes a lot of sense. But it does also smell a lot like what Super Rugby did with its expansion. Not too long before the PREM becomes a 16-team tournament I reckon.

A new look European season on the cards in 2026/27 Round 1 and 2 will be played individually now with 1 game in October and 1 in December The Round of 16 and QFs remain back to back though

@thepaulwilliams @JPearce_JP Positives: way more ball in play time. Negatives: everyone will take way more rest because it doesn’t matter anymore. Ad breaks?? I think refs just need to be (internally) graded on ‘keeping the flow’ I.e. how long did they let the players stand around and do nothing.

I really don't like all this chatter about depowering the scrum. Powerful scrums, require heavy powerful players. Heavy powerful players get tired and leave space. Depowering scrums will mean lighter players and less space overall. Plus, I love a scrum 👊

With all the focus on other issues for @IrishRugby I think it's unfair that Jeremy Loughman has gotten overlooked. A month ago no one would have thought of him as a starting Irish International but when called upon he has stepped up massively & held his own under huge pressure.
