Running is a funny sport. I wanted to do a half-marathon yesterday but body said nah, could only do 6kms. Today i wanted to do 10kms but ended up doing 22kms.

If this week was your longest run - or your first marathon, then please listen. Tomorrow, you’re probably going to feel wrecked. Calves, ankles, quads…even your shoulders. And don’t be surprised if there’s some serious brain fog too. Just recover. For most runners, it takes longer than you think. Don’t try to be a hero and jump right back in. That’s the fastest way to get injured after a marathon. You’re not going to lose all your fitness. Take the week off. Go for some easy walks, relax, and let your body actually heal. Once the aches and pains are gone, give it another 2–3 days before slowly easing back into training. For some 5-10 days recovery is fine, for others it may be 2-3 weeks. The key is to listen to your body and don't force runs if the body is telling you it's not ready. You accomplished something pretty big. Just enjoy it so you can stay healthy and do another. 👊

Started training again and trying to build up my endurance and get my feet used to running tired. I’m looking to just finish this half strong without a time in mind to avoid further injury and then build from there.

I did 4 consecutive half marathons last year and ended up tearing something in my right foot. Originally dismissed even though I couldn’t weight bear on a morning, couldn’t run over 10km without severe pain and each run was the slowest I’ve ever been. Now im 4 months pain free!
