Lots of kids come to school with their invisible backpacks, weighted with struggles. Stress, worry, fear, anxiety, trauma, lack of physical needs, loneliness, anger, sadness, & hopelessness can make them so heavy; too heavy for learning to happen. Notice & love them instead.

Our job is to teach the students we have. Not the ones we would like to have. Not the ones we used to have. Those we have right now. All of them.

Mother’s Day looks a little different when your babies are 29 and 23. As moms, we spend years teaching our children to grow up, become independent, chase their dreams, build their own lives, and find happiness beyond our front door. And when they do exactly that… our hearts swell with pride while quietly breaking a little at the same time. I am so incredibly proud of the men my boys have become. Their work ethic, their character, their success, and the futures ahead of them make every sacrifice worth it. Watching them thrive is one of the greatest rewards of motherhood. But if I’m honest, there are days I deeply miss the chaos. I miss the weekend ball tournaments, washing endless dirty uniforms, hearing “Mooooooommmmmmm” echo through the house a hundred times a day, and spending what felt like a small fortune on groceries every week. I miss the noise, the mess, the laughter, and simply knowing my whole family was under one roof. Mother’s Day without my two “boys” close to me is hard in ways I never expected. No one really prepares you for the conflicting emotions of parenting adults — the joy of seeing them soar while grieving the seasons that are gone. But oh… what a privilege it has been to love them through every stage. And no matter how old they get, they’ll always be my boys. ❤️ So today, I’m smiling at this new season of motherhood. Smiling through the missing and the pride all wrapped together. Looking forward to the possibility of adding a daughter-in-law one day, making new memories, and continuing to watch both of my sons thrive in the beautiful lives they’ve created for themselves. And truly… that’s every mother’s greatest hope. ❤️
